I just finished backing up a few movies with no problem and actualy watched Mr.Brooks in my ps2 with no problem. But when i put it in my computer it doesnt even see it, neither windows or anydvd. I am using anydvd 6.1.9.3. and winxpsp2,two lite on 20x lightscribe burners. I tried to click on the fox thing and send a log file, but its kind of hard to do whe your system doesnt think there is a disk in the drive.

from Frequently Asked Questions (READ BEFORE YOU POST)

5. Anydvd can't see or detect my original dvd-video movie disc (or my drives can read cds and not dvds or vice versa). What should I do?

a) Keep your license key file backed up safely
b) Uninstall Anydvd (start-->all programs-->Slysoft--->Anydvd-->Uninstall)
c) Reboot
d) Check to see if your system ("my computer") now reports a disc in drive. Do you see a video_ts folder (if you're using a dvd)? Do you see folders or files?

If the answer is "no" to "d)", then Anydvd isn't your problem. As Anydvd is not on your system, Anydvd can't interfere or block the reading process. Possibly your reader or burner is slowing dying, the original disc is bad, or a number of other possibilities exist as well (including messed up ide/sata busdrivers, bad cable on the back of the drive, etc.)

If the answer is "yes", click http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=1559 and follow the steps (note that step 4 requires you to post information)

Mr.Brooks Problems

I uninstalled anydvd, and put disk back in and system still wont read a disk in drive. So I put the other 5 movies I backed-up into both drives and systems reads them all. So then I took Mr.Brooks and put it into my ps2 and dvd player and both machines read and played the movie. I re-installed anydvd and then put brooks back in and same problem doesnt seem to see the disk. I also had the same problem with The new Rocky Balboa movie that just came out.......I tried using DVDINFOPro to read the disk and its a no-go, it just hangs for about a minute and then says no media present.

Seems that its probably a bad disc, even though it plays in my ps2 and dvd player. Finally found those little letters that say Search Forum....A large search button would really be efficeint, folks. One would almost think you didnt want that function to be found by anyone.

Thanks.

Then it's not an Anydvd issue. Possibly the backup is bad or your drive might be slowly dying.

I recommend using Taiyo Yuden (do not use their valueline) or Verbatim (I tend to avoid those made in India) blank media.

I assume you are having the issue with both DVDRW's? That would rule out the "dying" drive.
If the disc is not recognized by either drive that would rule out any media quality issues.
I would uninstall both drives, (in Device manager) and reboot.
If that doesn't work, I would think you have a defective original disc.

I'm not so sure.

I disagree

He has 2 drives. My assumption is based on the very unlikely chance that both DVDRW's are failing simultaneously.
A DVDRW is far more likely to experience problems with a damaged/defective disc.

You referenced using quality media to, I assumed, make the burn. The user hasn't gotten through the reading of the disc. So I deduced that poor quality media wouldn't be an issue at this point.

While that is true, if the drives are a similar make they can sometimes exhibit the same reading problems with the same media. I'm not really stating the drives are failing insomuch as this may just be an issue with the drives used.

Yes

The user hasn't gotten through the reading of the disc.

However, the backup disc is detected and plays on a ps3 and a standalone dvd player.

So, you have a few options:

1. Problem with the drives
2. Problem with the burn
3. Compatibility issue

----

My backups play on my computer or standalone dvd player, but not in something else. Why?

First, if the backup is playing in a standalone dvd player or on your computer, that means Anydvd and whatever backup program you used worked.

The most common reason why you're having this problem (if the backup doesn't work in a standalone dvd player) is due to a compatibility issue between the blank media you're using and whatever you're using to play the backup in (standalone dvd player, for example). Basically your dvd player, dvd-rom drive, etc. doesn't like the blank media you're using (or if you're using +R media, you didn't change the booktype to "dvd-rom"). You can try choosing other blank media (+r instead of -r, for example, and change the booktype to "dvd-rom")--or buy a different standalone dvd player (or a different dvd-rom drive, burner, etc.).

If you're using dvd-r media and your standalone dvd player gives you a message similar to ""Play Prohibited, please check disc", use dvd+r media instead and change the booktype to "dvd-rom" (see "b)" below).

a) Are you using junk blank media? If you're not using Taiyo Yuden 8x premium, Verbatim, Maxell Plus, or Maxell Broadcast Quality, then chances are the answer to this question is "yes".
b) Click this and read FULLY (especially take a look at point 4 for more information on bitsetting/booktyping, but all points are very important)

The same factors also apply to why the backup doesn't play in your computer (but there can be other factors including buggy or poorly installed dvd player software, bad drivers, etc.).

It's also possible the playback device/player you're using is slowly dying.
