1408 DVD Will Not Play in Old Machines

Using AnyDVD and !Click to make a back-up of 1408 I found it would not play in my old DVD Player but would in my new DVD Player made after January 2007, using Nero to write disk.

I have had this problem with other movies too. I think it has to do with the struture of the orignal DVD Vidieo Format.

Any ideas on how to fix this so the Back-up DVD will play on old DVD Players.

Booktype and all that stuff is set correctly. All programs are the latest releases.

It's reaaly a big issue for compatiblity...:doh:

Well, I don't use 1Click so I can't say anything for sure concerning it but I don't see AnyDVD causing a problem here. I own multiple DVD players that date back to 2001 and I haven't had issues with any backups I've played in them including 1408.

Could you please try making a backup of 1408 where you rip the disc using the AnyDVD ripper and burning the output to a DVD DL disc or compressing and burning to DVD-5 with Nero? My point is try leaving 1Click out of the equation and see if the problem remains.
 
I think the issue is that some very old players wanna see an audio_TS and video_TS folder at the root of the DVD.

Will other movies, copied on the same brand of media, play in that player?
 
Have you tried using Verbatim DVD+R media, and setting the booktype to DVD-ROM?

12. My backups play on my computer or standalone dvd player, but not in something else. Why?

First, if the backup is playing in a standalone dvd player or on your computer, that means Anydvd and whatever backup program you used worked.

The most common reason why you're having this problem (if the backup doesn't work in a standalone dvd player) is due to a compatibility issue between the blank media you're using and whatever you're using to play the backup in (standalone dvd player, for example). Basically your dvd player, dvd-rom drive, etc. doesn't like the blank media you're using (or if you're using +R media, you didn't change the booktype to "dvd-rom"). You can try choosing other blank media (+r instead of -r, for example, and change the booktype to "dvd-rom")--or buy a different standalone dvd player (or a different dvd-rom drive, burner, etc.).

If you're using dvd-r media and your standalone dvd player gives you a message similar to ""Play Prohibited, please check disc", use dvd+r media instead and change the booktype to "dvd-rom" (see "b)" below).

a) Are you using junk blank media? If you're not using Taiyo Yuden 8x premium, Verbatim, Maxell Plus, or Maxell Broadcast Quality, then chances are the answer to this question is "yes".
b) Click this and read FULLY (especially take a look at point 4 for more information on bitsetting/booktyping, but all points are very important)

The same factors also apply to why the backup doesn't play in your computer (but there can be other factors including buggy or poorly installed dvd player software, bad drivers, etc.).

It's also possible the playback device/player you're using is slowly dying.

Yes, I use only Verbatum Disk.

If the orginal DVD Comes out in 8gb Disk than that's the size of disk I use to back-up the movie too and I book type the DL Disk to DVD ROM.

All the above is true but none apply in this case. I've tested them on over 20machines and only the ones made after January 2007 will play it. I have tried using just AnyDVD to Back-up Movies onto hard drive and then ripping it with Nero and that did not cure the problem. I'll try it again and see what happens.

Everything plays in my computer. Not concerned about that. Would like the Back-ups to play in Portable and Stans Alone DVD Players and I understand all Players are not equal... 8gb -R Disk and ...

See upper Post all Disk are copied onto Verbatim DVD Disc

I burn using two Lite-On DVDRW LH-20A1H and read the disk with Sony DVD RW DRU-830A

Have a HP too but only use it for Lite Scripe

If I can reslove this problem I would be VERY VERY HAPPY!:clap:

Yes, that's what I use for 8gb Movie Back-ups:D

PROBLEM SLOVED! 1CLick is the problem.

Copied 1408 Movie using only AnyDVD and Burned it using Nero now it plays in all machines! PERFECT!

Check out Post 3 by Clams Canino and verify that there are 2 folders on that DVD and they are video and audio ( w/ nothing in the audio folder). If there is only 1 folder (video) then you need to have added a blank audio folder to the burn as that player probably needs to see 2 folders. You really must have an old DVD player as I have one that is 7 years old and it only needs the Video folder to be able to play the DVD properly.

Try to burn the files as an Image file(iso) and see if that plays

Just for the record seeing I like 1408, I tried to see if I could dupilicate your issue. I recopied 1408 using ANYDVD 6.1.8.4 with the following programs: CloneDvd, 1 Click Pro, Video Vault, Nero 7 Ultra, CopytoDVD. All were burned to Verbatim DVD+R discs. I did have failures copying using the 6.1.7.4 version of AnyDvd, however the ones using 6.1.8.4 all burned successful. I then took them all to each standalone players, I have Sanyo 2003, Sony 2006, Sony 2007, GE 2001. All the disks played perfectly. I would have agree with other members, the issue is not your standalone DVD player. I am not an expert on other issues, my way is different than others trial and error. I just thought I would add my 2 cents into the discussion.

P.S. This not a CLAIM this based on facts. :)

You're using AnyDVD
AnyDVD handles the error correction

Right Click on the 1Click Interface > Settings Menu

>UN Check = CPRx error correction enabled



I had no such troubles w/ AnyDVD and 1Click / 1ClickPRO

This was basically the reason I asked them to try to make a backup w/o using 1-Click. I suspected that was the problem but what I posted was essentially ignored.

Oh well. In the end the problem was resolved.

My back up works fine on my old DVD player (2000ish Phillips) without a problem, I'm using TY media, Anydvd with CloneDVD. Have you tried diffrent media?
 
One issue I have is that when I do backup a movie and maybe I decide to only backup the WS version and not FS version, the backup will play on my new Toshiba (2006), but will not play on my Sony (1999) Dvd player. I would not say it's a consistent problem, but it is weird when the dvd+r Verbatim will play in one but not the other player. The error code I get on my Sony indicates that the disk is bad and needs to be cleaned. Believe me it's clean as a whistle.

The only thing I can possibly think may cause the problem is a worn dvd optical lens on the Sony player? Maybe I need to get one of those optical lense cleaner for DVD's? Is that possible?

Same problem

You can get rid or the problem if you jusy copy the movie & the ac/3 audio file only. The menu and other confuses older dvd players
