Amazon offered resolution question

When downloading “Charade”, my default offered resolution was about 640x370. When clicking on the arrow, it showed that 1280x740 was available for selection.

I understood that AnyStream automatically picked the highest resolution Netflix offered the browser. Is this wrong? If I see a higher resolution option, is there a reason not to pick it?

Thanks.

I think Netflix charges 4 bucks more a month for better resolution.

I have that upgrade for 4K access on my TV but HD resolution up to 1920x1024 is available with the standard package in the US.

my main question is the AnyStream default Netflix resolution choice the highest offered to my browser? If not, is there a reason not to manually choose the highest resolution offered?

If there was any reason not to manually choose the resolution, there would not be such an option.

Thanks. From the Netflix 4K thread, I thought that Anystream defaulted to the highest resolution offered. Since this isn’t the case, if the default resolution option is other than 1920x1024, I will manually select the highest available.

As a suggestion, could the AnyStream Netflix resolution default choice be the highest available?

It does default to the highest offered, the highest offered to the built-in browser being maximum 1080p. Not the highest offered to a normal browser like edge or Firefox.

If you mean the resolution pre-selected for you on the Download configuration screen, it usually is the highest one available.

But not always.

I think it also depends on what you selected previously.

As an example, I downloaded a title in 720p once even though 1080p was available, and for my next download, 720p was pre-selected.

Thanks for the reply. I did mean the offered resolution on the download configuration screen.

I did make a mistake in saying my issue was with Netflix and it was Amazon. I edited the thread title to avoid confusion.

your instance may be part of the issue but to do a test, I downloaded “Joe” from Amazon at 1980x1024 and went to “Charade”. The pre-selected resolution was 640x360 but 1280x720 was available.

Since the pre-selected resolution isn’t always the best, I’ll check the options if the pre-selected resolution is less than full hd. Hopefully, the pre-selection will be tweaked to highest in the future.

That's pretty much what I've been doing.

If the resolution isn't already at 1080p when the Config screen pops up, I take a sec to open the dropdown box and see if what's pre-selected is the highest available.

I'm sure in the near future there may be a setting you can make to always select the highest resolution available and not be influenced by a previous selection.
