AnyDVD (HD) 8.4.8.1 beta installer fails on XP 32-bit with the message window:

"The procedure entry point RegDeleteKeyExA could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll."

The executable works fine on XP x64.

(The executable also worked on Windows 7 64-bit, except the icon refused to display in the system tray until after a reboot.)

You should no longer be using windows XP! That operating system is 20 years old, which is 10 years older than windows 7, and 10 years since the last ever security update. You need to update

There is nothing wrong with XP. It doesn't have the bloat nor the spying junk on it like windows 10
I have dozens of clients that still use XP with ZERO issues. They do everything that you can do with windows 7 or 10. They also watch movies on it, plus they have bluray burners & watch 4K UHD movies on it now since I've given them our custom AMD drivers since they don't use Intel junk. People will find a way to do things if they try. Most of the clients don't like the new layout of windows 10 & they prefer the XP layout since it is their computer after all & don't like being told what they MUST do on their own computers.

Well for their sake i hope they're not hooked up to the internet. Just because it works, doesn't mean they still should be. With Windows 7 no longer getting support, that shouldn't be used either. Left alone an OS that's even 10 years old. Everything i can do with windows 10? I severely doubt that, there's plenty of browsers that will refuse to update/install on XP which in turn results in websites refusing to load (properly).

I'm not telling what the HAVE to do, just what they shouldn't be anymore. But it's their systems obviously, but a security nightmare waiting to happen.

Back on topic. Maybe @James dropped support for x86 WinXP (though full support drop of anything up to and including 7 would be better, but it's not up to me to make that choice)

I have one hooked up to the internet. Works just fine and knows what and where it is. Maybe you spend too much time on the dark web or porn sites. ESET still works, Malwarebytes still works, and a lot of people don't go where they shouldn't and don't have a problem.

Speaking of updates, Windows XP (plus Vista & Windows Server) received security updates in 2019.

Back on Topic, hopefully @James can fix the issue.

True but that's only because they were massive breached, how many of those has XP had in the past 20 years since it's become obsolete, and technically unsafe to use?

But back on topic, could be a bug in the installer or intentional, James will have to explain.

Best outcome possible, though part of me was hoping it was intentional due to phasing out old OS support (and loving to full x64 of anydvd)

Please try this:

Not trying to get off topic but I have 2 laptops that still have Vista on them and occasionally with 1 of them I still go online with it and have security software on it and I have no problems. I still wish I had my XP PC that still worked as I would be still be using it everyday and even online. My XP PC was also the best burning PC as well. Certain things were a big hassle to figure out to get to work with on my newer Win. 8.1 PC. Granted 8.1 is more secure and so on but XP will always be the best OS ever made. When and I finally go to a Win. 10 laptop it will be a big change and some getting use to as it has with 8.1 which is still I prefer over 10.

Glad a fix was able to be done.

I don't know why people are worried about using Windows 10??

XP to Windows 7 was a much bigger jump/difference than Windows 7 to Windows 10.

I've been using Windows 10 since 2016 without issue. It's just so easy to use!
Been using Windows 10 as well and find if i go back to 7 it seems slower than 10 on the same PC. Even with a clean install of 7 and 10. Also hated using XP.
