watched dvd, froze around 70% into movie.

You missed some details, like how you watched the "dvd" (a burned one?).
Anyway, whatever your problem is, AnyDVD is likely not the cuase.
 
watched the original dvd using Leawo Blu-ray Player movie froze around 70%. Tried to copy disk using CDM mpeg and vob passthru, CDM 1950 would instantly exit. Reloaded CDM 1201 (slysoft), same result. Tried anydvd's copy to hard disk (folder), it also failed. Created above logfile. used anydvd to successfully copy 9 other titles. Failed with "TAG" will create logfile later in new post.
 
Well, all of the above should pretty much tell you its a dirty/defective disc. Especially with a title that old.
