AnyDVD takes ages (~4 min) to read the disc, but initially seems to finish okay (no errors shown, disc contents visible in Explorer).

When trying to rip the disc to HDD, the process runs way too quickly (showing "Repairing defective DVD structure..." in the process). In the end, the DVD contents on the HDD only sum up to about 320 MB, which include smaller clips (e.g. trailers) that play just fine but do not contain the VOB files for the main movie.

Tried with latest AnyDVD version (8.2.4.2), same result. Logfile is attached.

BTW, thanks for maintaining AnyDVD, keep up the good work!

There's multiple read errors in the log, that title is relatively new so it MIGHT be protection related but

@James this is a new one to me

137.08s: read sectors failed, sense 3:10:0 // **** <unknown>

I believe your disc and / or drive is dirty and / or defective.

I think @joe0815 can be shure that the disc or drive is devective. I did the 2D and the 3D version with 8.2.3.0. Both work perfect, even after shrinking them. I really can´t imagine that there could be 2 or more diffrent versions of this disc for rental in germany.

Well, the disc looks fairly new (no scratches, fingerprints, etc.) and plays fine on the same computer with AnyDVD disabled. It also plays fine on an external DVD player. I can try reporting it as defective and try another one, but given that it plays fine and it's just AnyDVD showing problems... I've been ripping discs with AnyDVD for many years and never encountered this problem. Usually, if a disc is defective you get specific read/seek error popups during copy.

Anything else I can do to at this point to assist you in pinning down the problem besides exchanging the disc for a different one?

I told you such an exact read error in my first response! Just because it's brand new, doesn't mean it can't be defective. We see this on a near daily occasion on the forum.

If the drive reads other discs just fine, that's more evidence that the disc is defective. The human eye can't see microscopic defects, a drive laser can.

I would call these specific read errors.

Just to quickly report back on this, the replacement disc finally arrived and I was able to copy it's contents without issues. The laser indeed doesn't lie. :)
