Error Writedvd 10 11 12 W2

Using CloneDVD version 2.9.1.2 I have experienced "media write errors, Error details: writedvd 10 11 12 W2" on three successive DVD's I have tried to write on just purchased Verbatim DVD-R blank media from two different batches. The failure occurs a few minutes into each attempted burn, and visually inspecting the media afterwords shows visible evidence that the media has been affected; i.e. it looks different than a new DVD-R blank looks. This is on a brand new HP tx1220us notebook with a single DVD drive running Vista Home Premium with 2 GB of RAM and with a 200 GB hard drive. I am just now starting to try and diagnose the problem, but I sure would be grateful for anyone whose suggestions might be able to save me some time.
