@ rod60,

Verbatim Mitsubishi Chemicals (MCC) did not manufacture your supposedly “Verbatim” Media.

Mitsubishi Chemicals (MCC) manufactures “REAL” Verbatim Media. Real Verbatim media will have a MCC MID code. CMC MAG. AM3 MID code is not a Verbatim Mitsubishi Chemicals (MCC) MID code but is a CMC Magnetics MID code.

Your supposedly “Verbatim” Media has a CMC Media code, which signifies that CMC Magnetics manufactured this particular Media. CMC Magnetics manufactured Media is usually poor quality Media.

Concerning your TDK Media. Your TDK Media contains TTH02 MID code, which is a TDK MID code, but it should be noted that the Manufacture is listed as Unknown, which in my mind is suspect. All the Real TDK Media I have ever used always reveals the Manufacture as TDK. There have been reports that a TDK MID codes have been faked in the past. Faked MID codes generally indicate poor quality Media.

Regards,
Coaster

Real Verbatim, Sony, Maxell are the ones I use 99.9% of the time because they are good and Sam's Club sells them cheap! About 1/2 price as compared to Office Depot. :D

Usually changing brands helps all of those issues. I still have burn issues from time to time as it's going to happen some...but it's like 1-3 out of 300-500 so I think that's good enough. Make sure you don't burn them too fast either.

@ rod60,

Mitsubishi Chemicals (MCC) manufactures “REAL” Verbatim Media.

I'm not sure what distinction you are making here, but there is CMC made media that is legitimately sold under Verbatim's name, which is held to higher standards than the CMC that is sold under other brand names (same goes for Prodisc made Verbatim). And most Verbatim single layer blank media that is sold in North America is either made by CMC or Prodisc.

I agree that MCC is Mitsubishi's plant and that Verbatim is a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (hence, blank media produced there is "real" Verbatim blank media), if that's what you're saying.

If Verbatim media is made in Taiwan, it's made by CMC (I would avoid MAP6 and PAP6 serials found on the inner plastic hub) or Prodisc.
If Verbatim media is made in India, it's made by MBIL (Moser Baer).
If Verbatim media is made in Japan, it's most likely made by Taiyo Yuden.
If it's made in Singapore, then it's made by Mitsubishi's plant (usually limited to RW and DL media).

And a lot of CMC made blank media made for Verbatim is excellent (with some notable exceptions--the PAP6 and MAP6 serials, for one).

And stay far away from TDK sold at Costco and regular Maxell blank media (not made in Japan)

I would also recommend
1) updating your burner's firmware if available
2) burning at 8x, if you have been burning at 16x, on 16x rated blank media
3) trying Taiyo Yuden Premium blank media

If Prodisc makes Verbatim, would that mean Prodisc would be just as good quality? Just curious. I use to buy Prodisc and Ritek from Meritline.com and never had issues with them until I found Verbatim and others at Sam's Club for the same prices as the lesser expensiive from online. 100 16x Verbatim (non printable) for $32-38 isn't too bad.

But once in a while no matter the brand, I'll run into 5 or 6 in a row either at the top or bottom of the spindle that just won't cooperate. But that's rare.

No. Stuff that is sold under Verbatim's name is typically held to higher standards. And with the excpetion of the PAP6 and MAP6 (CMC Verbatim serials), I actually prefer CMC made Verbatim discs to Prodisc Verbatim.

I was going to say...then everyone would just buy Prodisc.

As for the serials, are we speaking of the serial found on the inner ring of the burnable side? The very faint #'s...on mine anyway as I have hub printables at the moment. I think "CMDR" are the first digits. Or is this also somewhere on the outside of the package? I never really looked.

I'm amazed by the amount of knowledge on this forum and the willingness of people to share that knowledge.

I have just started to burn the same disk at 8x and will see how that works out.

Cannot source the Taiyo Yuden media locally (Tasmania, Australia) but have ordered some online.

Thanks, Rod60

I'll have to stick with my Verbatims, Sony's and such. Taiyo Yuden is a little pricey for me plus I can get mine at the local Sam's Club hub printable about 32 cents each. I have a friend with a 110 inch projection and he says he doesn't have any issues.

Verbatim and Sony should suffice.

Just wanted to say, Gee it took me a long time to figure out if I already have ANYDVD for a long time, why was I so stupid as to buy other DVD burning software instead of CloneDVD2???????

That should had been a no brainer:mad: Well so far everything that have thrown at CloneDVD has worked perfect and have more controll on what I want on the final product.

Will keep my fingers crossed, the software even play's on a High difinition DVd player at that, some programs won't.

So far a happy camper here.:)
