New protection or can't handle CSS?

Hello,

I am a pain in the neck again :p I've got another R5 DVD title to backup and this time CloneDVD2 refuses to backup because of the protection on the disc. I thought AnyDVD was supposed to be taking care of that...

The output of AnyDVD's status window is below:

Code:
Summary for drive F: (AnyDVD 6.1.6.9)
_NEC DVD_RW ND-4551A 1-07 05111800
Drive (Hardware) Region: 2

Media is a DVD.
Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 1
Total size: 1795882 sectors (3507 MBytes)

Video DVD (or CD) label: PRINCE_VLADIMIR
Media is CSS protected!
Video Standard: PAL
Media is locked to region(s): 5!
I'm also attaching the ZIP archive with IFOs. Email with info and the same ZIP archives has been sent to Slysoft of course :D

What is the error message you get in Clonedvd? Does Anydvd give you an error message?

What happens if you do this?

1. Ensure the CSS key archive is disabled in Anydvd.

2.
i. Right click the fox on your toolbar. Exit Anydvd
ii. Click start. Right click on "My computer"--->select "properties".
iii.Click on the 'Hardware' tab--->click the 'device manager' button.
iv. Open the dvd/cdrom branch---> right click on your optical drive
v. Click "properties".
vi. You should have a region tab. From there you can select a region.
vii. Select the region that matches the region on the disc
viii. Start Anydvd
ix. click the fox icon on your toolbar. Go to Video dvd--->settings
x. Change the default to match the region on the disc
xi. Click Ok

Thank you for your suggestions.

However, after following the steps you described, the same message came up. I really have no idea what might be causing this error

O.k., I guess wait to see what James says about .ifos then.

You aren't having problems with any other disc right?

You aren't having problems with any other disc right?

Well, that's one funny thing, or maybe not...

After returning the region of my DVD drive back to Region 2 I wanted to see what AnyDVD would say about a random title I picked (Ace Vetura, R2, UK). I was quite puzzled to see that AnyDVD displayed only the info shown below:

Code:
Summary for drive F: (AnyDVD 6.1.6.9)
_NEC DVD_RW ND-4551A 1-07 05111800
Drive (Hardware) Region: 2

Media is a DVD.
Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 1
Total size: 2178816 sectors (4255 MBytes)

Video DVD (or CD) label: ACE_VENTURA_PET_DETECTIVE
Media is CSS protected!
Video Standard: PAL
Media is locked to region(s): 2!

Usually it would also say about the protections not found and how it is emulating with RPC-2 but it didn't!

So I decided to try to back it up using CloneDVD2 and what do you think? I got the same pop-up error message as above but I've been able to back it up before!

It seems to get more and more puzzling with no light at the end of the tunnel...:(

Thank you Webslinger.

Well, your filters seem fine, as far as I can tell.

Other than checking for bad ide/sata busmaster drivers and checking the cables on the back of your drives, I'm out of suggestions.

It's possible James will find something in the .ifos.

Thanks for your help Webslinger. It just seems that AnyDVD is running, but not doing anything, which is quite strange indeed!

1. Have you tried enabling Safe Mode in Anydvd?

2. Try shutting down unnecessary programs that may be running in the background.

And if that doesn't work, I'm out of ideas.

Thanks again Webslinger.

Setting AnyDVD to Safe Mode has not helped, unfortunately.

I'm starting to get a feeling that it is less to do with AnyDVD not removing the protection and region encoding but something to do with the drive. However, I was able to backup a R5 disc earlier on in the day, yet when I stuffed another R5 disc (IFOs attached in the very first post of this thread) it has all gone to pieces.

It seems to me that AnyDVD is not displaying a great deal of information that it would normally display in its status window. I wonder if there is a reason for that...

@ ivanX,

What version of CloneDVD are you currently using?

From reviewing the data in your #10 posting I don’t see what version of CloneDVD you are using but I did note that you using CloneCD v5.2.1.3 which is very old version and not the current up to date CloneCD v5.3.0.1 and also Game Jackal v2.9.18.555 and not the current up to date Game Jackal 2.9.18.565.

Confirm that in fact you are using the most current CloneDVD v2.9.1.1

Confirm that you don’t have any Packet Writing Software Programs, Anti Virus Software Programs and/or any kind of Registry Monitoring Software Programs running in the background while you are attempting to process DVDs that could be interfering with the correct and proper functioning of the AnyDVD software program.

Regards,
Coaster

While that's true about Game Jackal, I have Clonecd 5.3.0.5 beta installed, but the filter version is the same

Filter Name: ElbyCDFL
File Name: C:\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\ElbyCDFL.sys

(I just mention this in passing . . .)

I can confirm that I am indeed using the latest version of CloneDVD v 2.9.1.1

I do have Norton Internet Security 2004 running in the background but that has never caused any problems in the past. I don't have any Registry Monitoring software running either.

I'm quite anxious to solve this problem :agree: Thank you for everybody's help

Norton sucks period.

For the sake of observation let's try to compare the 2 outputs of AnyDVD's status window before the problem and now.

BEFORE:
crop1if3.jpg

AFTER:
Code:
Summary for drive F: (AnyDVD 6.1.6.9)
_NEC DVD_RW ND-4551A 1-07 05111800
Drive (Hardware) Region: 2

Media is a DVD.
Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 1
Total size: 1795882 sectors (3507 MBytes)

Video DVD (or CD) label: PRINCE_VLADIMIR
Media is CSS protected!
Video Standard: PAL
Media is locked to region(s): 5!
It is obvious that a great chunk of information is not being reported in the "AFTER" status window. What can be causing this? I'll try to reinstall AnyDVD in the meantime...
