OS XP

After upgrade to 6.1.6.7, got message "Burn Failed, want to try again." Tried again and after copy process got message, "Copy Complete." Copy was defective and would not play in any of my DVD players. Tried to backup another movie and it showed "Copy Complete" but again the backup would not play in any player. After wasting 3 blank discs, reinstalled 6.1.6.5 and it worked fine. Apparently serious problems with new version. Any suggestions?

As Anydvd doesn't burn, your issue has nothing to do with Anydvd.

1. Do step 8 from here: http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=321

2.. What blank media are you using? Specify a) brand name b)type (-R, +R, -RW, +RW, RAM, DL, etc.) c)media code, d) capacity/size, e) batch codes/serial codes (often found printed on the inner plastic hub of the blank disc), and f)country (factory information would be great as well, if possible) where the media was made (look on the physical packaging; do not rely on programs to accurately give you this information).

If you don't know how to obtain media codes, you may find the following programs useful:

http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com and http://www.dvdinfopro.com/

3) At what speed are you burning your blank media?

4) What burning program and version number are you using?

5. Do steps 3 and 4 from here:
http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=1559 (note that step 4 requires you to post information)

Thank you for your response. I'm sorry I probalby did not make myself clear in original post. First, I have been using AnyDVD for over a year with 1ClickDVDPro, regularly updating AnyDVD. I have never had any problems making my backups until I installed Vs. 6.1.6.7. Nothing has changed on my system, or the Blank Discs I am using to cause this problem, other than the install of 6.1.6.7. As soon as I deleted it and reinstalled 6.1.6.5, it worked perfectly.

I may have been wrong about the error message that I received from 1 ClickDVD Pro when I first tried to use 6.1.6.7 after install. It might have said, "Copy Failed, do you want to try again." When I tried to play the disc, the drive and AnyDVD would not recognize it and I could see that there was only about 1/8 inch of burn on it. So, it obviously started to burn and quit.

The second attempt completed the copy process and I received the message "Copy Complete." However, this time the drive and AnyDVD recognized the disc, but again there was only about 1/8 inch of burn on the disc, and it would not play. This is all the info displayed by AnyDVD when I insert the copy in the drive:

"Summary for drive D: (AnyDVD 6.1.6.5)
MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-810 C102 30114TKME1385001692
Drive (Hardware) Region: 1

Media is a DVD.
Booktype: dvd-r (version 5), Layers: 1
Total size: 2078016 sectors (4058 MBytes)"

As you can see, there is no info on the actual movie that should have been copied. When I tried to make a backup of a different movie, the same thing happened, 1ClickCopyPro showed copy complete and there was no movie there.

Again, I deleted 6.1.6.7 and reinstalled 6.1.6.5, and everything worked perfectly again.

The other info you requested is below:
Media is Verbatim DVD-R, 16X, 4.7GB
Made in Taiwan
Record Speed set to Max in 1ClickDVD Copy pro

I'm a little confused as to how this could be a problem with my computer or the blank discs when the problem only occurs with VS 6.1.6.7 installed.

Thanks for your help.

1. Matshita (Panasonic oem) drives are notorious for breaking down early and also suffer from region code issues. visit
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.php?p=637240&postcount=2
Generally these drives should be avoided. Laptop companies love Matshita because they are cheap.

2. Again, Anydvd does not affect burning issues.

3. If you're using 1-Click, ensure CPRX is disabled.

4. 1-Click has very good forums. I recommend posting your issue there. visit http://forum.lgsoftwareinnovations.com

5. Never burn at max if you're having issues. Burn at 12x or 8x.

6. You, again, need to do steps 3 and 4 from here:
http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=1559 (note that step 4 requires you to post information)

You're wrong webslinger. I'm having the exact same problem as the original poster. I installed the newest version last night and have wasted about 4 blank discs. I know for sure I haven't installed any software that might interfere. AnyDVDs update is affecting my burning process somehow.

If reinstalling an older version helps, I'm definitely gonna try it at least. For now, I keep wasting discs thinking that the media is bad.

You may be correct.
There is a newer version of Anydvd and Clonedvd that will be released soon, which may or may not resolve your issue.
The advice I gave in this thread is sound and accurate unless you're having an issue that's specific the issues James has discovered:
visit http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=41417&postcount=33

The other information I have provided in this thread is still sound, regardless.

SONY DVD+R Ver 1.3/1x-16x 4.7GB made in Taiwan

I haven't had a problem with the discs before. Anyway, I tried HP DVD+R discs as well and its definitely something with the drive. And this problem has come up ever since I updated...

any dvd clonedvd2 updates

read with interest all your comments , i spent whole day messing around after these updates burning removing trying to resolve the chkdsk issue which lo and behold was down to clonedvd2 , rebuilt my pc and installed earlie versions any dvd 6160 and clone dvd2 2903 luckily i had these stored and their history seemed not too bad after which my pc purred and produced a copy as normal i am leaving updates off until an update or three has gone by and i advise the same to other forum members the problem would seem to be eagerness to make everything run smoothly for vista users unfortunatel us xp users get it in the neck , regarding burning speeds I use tuffdisc , verbatim and other dvds r plus and r minus but despite what speed of dvd i always find burning at 2x is best less coasters my pc isnt too old but its getting on a bit in suggest if you get duds you even resort if you have the time at 1x takes ages but sometimes that does work with some media excellent forum though!

NO Taiwan Media is reliable, other than Verbatim. Try some Verbatim media and if the issue continues your DVDRW is most likely dying.

I tend to agree (strongly, actually) with this.

Also, Clonedvd 2.9.1.1 is reliable and should be used instead of older versions.

Anydvd 6.1.6.7 has some known issues that will be addressed in a new update soon.

hummmm you know I want to say the burner it is more likely that it is dying but i only had it for 10 months its that possible? to go bad that fast? I must admit when i started to use taiyo out of 100 I only had 1 coaster i had 100 vebatim and 0 coaster 6 months ago and i had bulpack 100 of them and only 2 coasters datarite 75 and 1 coaster and maxell 0 coasters so taiyo ihas been a very good media so far so i think it has to be the burner but since new ver of anydvd so far no problems with verbatim

I doubt Anydvd affects burn quality, but, at any rate, you should update to Anydvd 6.1.6.9 (or later, if a newer one exists).

I always get advice on here that is wrong, when am I actually going to get useful advice on this forum?

My drive pretty much died after updating to the newest anydvd. And FYI I'm not a noob, I've been doing this stuff for over a year and only come on here for serious issues.

BTW, Destroyer_1, that is the exact problem I'm having. And my computer is about 19 months old.

Why do you come back? Perhaps you should try elsewhere. If you already know the advice is wrong, why ask the question?

I always get advice on here that is wrong

What oldjoe wrote is true, and most burning experts will point you towards Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden at the very least. There's a reason why most imgburn forums and others expert burning forums recommend Verbatim.

My drive pretty much died after updating to the newest anydvd

Anydvd doesn't cause drives to die.

when am I actually going to get useful advice on this forum?

If you reread my post, you will see that I didn't say my drive died, I said it was pretty much dead after the update. You can't skim posts like that.

I updated to 6.1.6.9 and my drive now works perfectly. AnyDVD works on my computer now, I just need to get new discs, which will probably be Verbatim.

Oh yeah, I must add that when I had 6.1.6.8, pressing the button on my drive for it to open wouldn't open it. I had to manually open it (by inserting a safety pin and pulling it out). I didn't see anyone else say that there drive wouldn't open, so it might be useful information.

Anydvd 6.1.6.8 was never meant to be released according to James (basically a mistake). Apparently, 6.1.6.6 to 6.1.6.8 had some serious errors that I never encountered.

I agree

I agree with DEPDAD these last few updates have caused issues with burns, I understand that it may not have anything to do with the burner, but somewhere along the line anydvd and clone dvd became super sensitive to burn media. I have used all type of media and all worked fine. It wasnt until the last 3 or 4 updates of clonedvd and anydvd, i started getting errors and incomplete burns. I have used memorex, sony, phillips, imation etc. all successful, maybe like 3 bad burns out of 50 attempts. Now every since the updates, im tossing 10 to 15 disc per 50 due to incomplete burns and another 5 or 6 due to the movie freezing up at the end. Not sure what happened, but the updates put some major glitches in the program.

No, while a bug exists in Anydvd 6.1.6.9, the freezing during playback at the end has nothing to do with Anydvd, regardless of whatever version you're using. Your choice of blank media leaves a lot to be desired, and frankly, I would expect problems based on your choices.

Use good quality media (Memorex, Ritek, Princo, Fuji, TDK from Costco, and Maxell that are not made in Japan are not good quality media). Are you using inferior blank media? If you're not using Taiyo Yuden Premium, Verbatim, Maxell Plus, or Maxell Broadcast Quality, then chances are the answer is yes.
If you use poor quality blank media, then you should expect problems.

9. Why are my backups freezing, skipping, or showing a blocky pixellated mess during playback?

3. Try lowering your burn speed a little (if you have a 16x burner and 16x rated media try writing to it at 12x or 8x instead of 16x)

4. If you're using +R, +RW, or +R DL media, change the booktype to "dvd-rom"
http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=476 (step 3)

5. Avoid sticker labels (they tend to cause problems)

6. Try setting a custom size of 4300 in whatever burning program you're using (but if you're using good media, you shouldn't have to) if you're using regular single layer dvd-5 (4.7GB) discs.

7. Download Nero cd-dvd speed. It's a free program. Select the tab labeled "scandisc". Insert the problematic backup disc, select the appropriate drive letter, and click "start". If Nero cd-dvd speed reports read errors, your backup is bad (which is the most likely case), your optical drive may be slowly dying, or your optical drive simply doesn't like the disc (or your choice of blank media)--even if the disc looks fine.

Bad burn quality is notorious around the end of discs (see step 6)
and also at layer breaks when using low quality DL media (use Verbatim +R DL media made in Singapore, and change the booktype to "dvd-rom")
