I am a registered user of Clone DVD and I just d/l version 2.9.1.1. The install won't run. It says that the program is currently running but it really isn't. I did a reboot and got the same message. Just to be sure I checked what processes are running (via CTRL+ALT+DEL) and it is NOT running.

My system is XP Media edition.

Any ideas on how to do the upgrade?

Thanks!

Exit out of all Slysoft programs and reinstall

a) Keep your license key file backed up safely
b) Uninstall Clonedvd (start-->all programs-->Elaborate Bytes--->Clonedvd2-->Uninstall)
c) Reboot
d) Try running a registry cleaner program at this point like CCleaner
e) Download Clonedvd http://static.slysoft.com/SetupCloneDVD.exe
f) Exit all Slysoft programs (including Anydvd, Clonedvd2, Clonecd, Clonecdtray, Clonedvdmobile, etc.). Check Windows Task Manager if you have to.
g) At this point disable your antivirus and firewall programs
h) Reinstall
i) Reboot
j) Install your license key (if required) http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=732
k) At this point enable your antivirus and firewall programs

"Registry cleaner" type programs tend to cause more problems than they solve.

Slysoft should make a little applet, or simply a reg/batch file, that checks for then totally and completely removes every trace of its programs from the system, allowing a person to do a true clean install.

CCleaner has helped resolved several issues here on these forums with respect to people having issues with Slysoft software (and their registry). CCleaner is free and highly regarded.

I tend to agree.

Done. It is the "Uninstall" program that comes with the applications. ;)

It is very likely, that - if the program isn't running - the installer doesn't have write access to the file. Some *other* program must have locked it.
A Virus? A trojan? Some Anti-Spy Software? A Virus Scanner?
Try to delete CloneDVD2.exe manually. Disable all Spybots, Scanners, etc...
(I honestly believe that most of these anti-malware software sometimes does more harm than the malware itself...)
Last but not least: Your admin account has full read/write access to the installation directory?

Fixed

As per the instructions from Slysoft's support gurus, the problem was with SpyBot's Tea Timer. One it was deactivated, I was able to do the upgrade.

Kudos for the fine support team!

(Wonder why this happened all of a sudden since I've seen running TeaTimer for at least the last 4 years and have only has Clone DVD 2 for about the last 2 years????)

Sound like something went awry with the latest upgrade version!

No. Actually, that issue isn't new. And I feel a bit stupid for not mentioning it, especially considering I included that issue in the FAQ.

15. What programs may conflict with Anydvd and other Slysoft software?

If you're having problems with Anydvd, you might want to remove these other programs:

1. Musicmatch Jukebox
visit http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=1293

2. Pinnacle software
VOB Instant Drive (virtual drive, which uses ASAPIW2k.sys)
Pinnacle InstantWrite (packet writing software, which uses cdrdrv.sys)

Other Pinnacle software may install ASAPIW2k as well

also visit http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=203&page=4

3. Packet writing software in general (directcd, incd, etc.).
If you want this functionality, I recommend using DVD-RAM burners instead.

4. ONES, Zulu2, Recordnow! 4 and Digion Audio (PzWDM)

visit http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=998&page=2

5. Nero's Incd

6. Directcd (possibly)

7. Arcsoft Photo impressions (or anything that installs afc.sys)

8. Dragtodisc

9. Drive Letter Access (more packet writing software from Veratis/Sonic Solutions)

10. CyberLink InstantBurn (more packet writing software)

11. Iviaspi.sys (sometimes installed by Windvd)

I'm keeping this thread open in case people want to add to the list or discuss the conflicts.
This is not a a definitive list, and it's entirely possible some software listed will work on certain systems with Anydvd.

12. Spybot Teatimer (only conflicts when installing)

13. DVD43 (can cause conflicts with Anydvd; moreover dvd43 only decrypts CSS)

14. Dvdidle/css+region free
