Aren't the clonedvd folks embarrassed ?

I and many others get the "no" error message (since January for me)when CLONEDVD is "flushing buffers - writing borders" --
which hangs our DVD drive and requires a reboot ...
(while running nothing but CLONEDVD after a shutdown)
and we are referred to a FAQ that tells us to do all kinds of "work-arounds" !!
(which I have -- with little success)

CLONEDVD worked for over a year plus -
then intermittently --- now seldom (great collection of coasters :(

Shouldn't software (which I paid for) have a more elegant / informational error/exit strategy than "hanging" ???

DVD Shrink (free-old as hills) works just fine with my DVD burner / Sony media while I'm reading mail, editing in WORD, surfing the web.

I thought I was "stepping up" by purchasing a "supported" product.

My support ticket response asked if my DVD or CPU were overheating !@!

Has anyone been able to get through to good support or their money back ?

If I wrote software (oh, wait, I do) -- I'd be embarrassed !

A new Clonedvd version will be out shortly.

However, the existing Clonedvd version still works fine for most.

1. Iolo Antivirus with System Mechanic issue

Imaref said:
I recently had problems with CloneDVD when writing to a blank DVD, I kept getting an error at 99%. I figured out that System Mechanic 7 Pro with Iolo Antivirus was the culprit.

Now before I start AnyDVD and then CloneDVD, I turn off the iolo antivirus and everything is working fine again.

It seems reasonable to suspect other Antivirus programs might interfere as well.

2. Disable the .wav sound that plays at the end of the burn

sockeye said:
It may be hanging on the .wav file at the end of the burn.
Click on the preferences tab in Clonedvd, blank the "successful completion of operations" box, and see if this resolves your problem.
You can use the browse button next to it to reinstate success .wav

3. Try a custom size of 4300 if you're using regular single layer blank media

Try setting a custom size of 4300 near the quality bar in Clonedvd (but if you're using good media, such as Taiyo Yuden Premium, Verbatim, Maxell Plus, or Maxell Broadcast Quality, you shouldn't have to) if you're using regular single layer dvd-5 (4.7GB) discs. Bad burn quality is notorious around the end of discs. Using a custom disc size of 4300 ensures you won't be burning to the end.

Other things to try that may help include:

A. Update your burner's firmware (if available)
http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=12794&postcount=10

B. Use good quality media (Memorex, Ritek, Princo, Fuji (not made in Japan), TDK from Costco, and general Maxell that you can find in most stores (not made in Japan) are not good quality media. Are you using inferior blank media? If you're not using Taiyo Yuden Premium, Verbatim, Maxell Plus, or Maxell Broadcast Quality, then chances are the answer is yes.
If you use poor quality blank media, then you should expect problems.

C. Try lowering your burn speed (not below 4x; if you have a 16x burner and 16x rated media try writing to it at 12x instead of 16x; an 8x burn speed on 16x rated media wouldn't be a bad idea either)

D. Avoid sticker labels (they tend to cause problems)

E. Try setting a custom size of 4300 in Clonedvd (but if you're using good media, you shouldn't have to) if you're using regular single layer dvd-5 (4.7GB) discs.

Bad burn quality is notorious around the end of discs (see step E)
and also at layer breaks when using low quality DL media (use Verbatim +R DL media made in Singapore, and change the booktype to "dvd-rom")

Also,

1. Click this

Do what it says to do.

Also, check to see if there's a better ide/ata busmaster driver available for you possibly from your motherboard's support website if Microsoft's default drivers aren't working well for you.
If you're not using Microsoft's default drivers, then please do.

Idiot
.....

Can you read my mind or something?

Please, nobody use DVD Fab, its worse than Clone DVD especially when you crack it illegally :disagree:. Just follow Webslinger's instructions or wait a few days for an updated version to be released. The bugs will be worked out.

yep, they need to change this 'idiot' rights to read only or just ban him and delete his posts. He is obviously here to cause problems.

Follow Webslinger's suggestions and all should be ok.

While I absolutely agree that pedrogg should be sent to the mud pile from whence he came for advocating running a "cracked" version of a competing software package in these forums - it should not turn into a dump on that software package. pedrogg is the culprit here - not fengtao or his DVDFab Platinum software package!!

I have to agree with your post in its entirety. While I am not a fan of DVDFab I try not to slag it either. Regardless of the GPL violations it does work well for many people.

That said, what bothers me, however, is how quick people are to jump ship and act like children about a problem. Some have been very vocal and aggressive in their presentation of dismay. This is simply uncalled for. Some problems exist with both the latest version(s) of AnyDVD and CloneDVD. Anyone who has the ability to read the forum whether visually or with a screen-reading program for the blind should be well aware of the multitude of posts about problems including endless reposts of the same problem because people are too freakin' lazy to read and add to an applicable existing thread. Those same people should have seen that James and peer have made posts. Slysoft is aware of the problems!

Anyone who has used DVDFab and/or reads the forums knows that even DVDFab has problems from time to time and it may take a few days for the problem to be fixed. This is the way it works with all software. Slysoft has a record of fixing problems in record time including releasing multiple releases in a single day to fix a bug. That's worthy of some credit. And the childish notion of cutting off your nose to spite your face by not using Program X anymore switching to Program Y is just idiotic to say the least. When AnyDVD and CloneDVD work great they are the cat's ass but when there is a problem people go insane. For all the good the programs do they are entitled to problems now and then. All programs are.

In the end the real problem seems to boil down to Slysoft's apparent lack of response to emails. Personally, I've had no issues but I would recommend to Slysoft that they either overhaul how email support is handled or at the very least review how it is currently done. Now, one person complained that they emailed support on Friday. Well, taking into account the location of Slysoft in Antigua it was already too late in the day for expecting anything and then you had the weekend. So while they said it was 5 days w/o a reply it wasn't really 5 days. But, nonetheless, it does seem Slysoft needs to respond a bit more to people emailing support form the number of complaints on the matter.

Hats off to Slysoft and Elaborate Bytes for your most excellent software. And I'm still a fan even when a problem exists. How insane of me. How utterly insane.

This is the Slysoft forum. I am moving these posts to the third party products forum. :policeman: Some of the posts in this thread are not acceptable, if it continues I will take action as the rules of the Slysoft will be enforced.

The support here and at Slysoft.com are unequaled. If you do not like the product, you should have used the 21 day free trial and if not satisfied you should not have purchased it. I will not have posts on this forum that do not help people or bash any product not just Slysofts. :policeman:
