Hey All,

New to anydvd, all in all this seems to be a great product.

However.

I appear to have issues when backing up sony and lions gate films.
I have used cloneDVD2 and anydvd to attempt a backup of the DVD Covenant. In a nut shell about 51 percent of the way in I get an unrecoverable read error.

Saw some posts about using dvdshrink to get this done, but I was wondering if anyone has had success using only clonedvd2 and anydvd?
Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks in Advance for Assiatnce.

Thanks for the quick responses.

I am trying to backup the disk one more time using the ripper provided with anydvd. If this does not work I will provide the requested information from steps 8 and 9.

I may have to agree with you that this is a bad disk. When I run neroCDSpeed it show many errors. I was unsure if this was due to the disk or due to some sort of intentional copy protection. I did buy this 2nd hand. One persons trash is another mans treasure :)

If the rip does not work I will provide the information from steps 8 and 9

thanks to all

Other than system resources the only program running was anydvd. The system was basically dedicated to anydvd.

I suspect your original disc is faulty.

That said, I thought, for some reason the disc had Arccos protection on it. I guess not.

Thanks for the assitance, I was thinking it was a bad original. Oh well I got it cheap anyhow. With a 9 month old Son I like to have backups instead of copies hanging around.

Even with this issue, anydvd is a great product.

I am also wondering if it may be the burner/reader I am using.
LG 4167B.

Yes, this is strange. I'm not following Sony's train of thought here. Why is there no Arccos on this title? It was released in 2006 i believe, and Arccos protected DVD's came out in 2005. Also, Ghost Rider didn't have it either. You would think that a big title like that would have more than CSS especially coming from Sony after seeing what they did to Casino Royale and other titles released around the same time. This just stumps me.

Well, I think the reason is related to this:

Although that is interesting, it does not fully explain this. Why is it only a select few titles without Arccos, and that report was written in April which stated that the Arccos system had since been updated after the problem. So why would a disc released in late June be affected?

Sony since that point Sony had either reduced the number of dummy files/bad sector protections (as anydvd shows, we saw a ton on R1 Casino Royale)--or have stopped using that protection entirely in some cases. Does that mean Sony has given up entirely? I doubt it. The Covenant may have just been an anomaly. Maybe Sony felt it wasn't big enough of a movie to warrant putting tons of protection on it.

The Covenant was released before Casino Royale, Open Season, Pursuit of Happyness, etc. So this still puzzles me. Ghost Rider was a big ticket movie, but maybe after what happened on those other titles, they decided to halt it. Maybe this had something to do with it being a big ticket movie, that could produce millions of unplayable discs. As for Sony giving up, never. The flames have died, but the embers are still burning hot.
