Bug with AnyDVD 6.1.6.5 and how to solve it.

I am using the following drives:
Drive 1: SATA-DVD DROM6316
Drive 2: HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GSA-H30L

The problem is the following:
There is a fatal bug in this version. It did not happen before with other versions, so I know it is a bug. Anyway, this is what happens and the instructions to re-create what is happening.
1) Run AnyDVD
2) Insert DVD to be copied in drive 1.
3) Insert blank DVD (dual or single layer) into drive 2.
4) Run the program to be used to copy the DVD (in my case, I use CloneCD). You may run it after running AnyDVD if you want, and the bug will still appear.
5) Begin copying the DVD.
6) Once the DVD is copied, put a new blank DVD in drive 2. You may change the DVD in drive 1 if you want, but the bug will still appear.
7) Once those six steps are followed, AnyDVD no longer recognizes the existence of drive 2, so you have to disable the drive and enable it again or uninstall it and reinstall it in order for AnyDVD to be able to recognize it. Re-starting the computer will not help, you will have to disable or uninstall the driver to fix it.

The way to solve it is the following:
There is a way to stop this bug from appearing. Follow this steps to do so.
1) Once the DVD has been copied, and the tray of drive 2 has come out, turn off AnyDVD. The tray of drive 2 must remain out until AnyDVD has been turned off.
2) Put a blank disc in drive 2.
3) Turn on AnyDVD.
4) Copy a new DVD.
Please note that CloneCD or other program used to copy disks have not to be turned off for this to work. Also, you must always follow these steps when making copies or the bug will appear.

I can't reproduce this at all on three different systems with Anydvd 6.1.6.5 and Clonecd 5.3.0.5. But what do you expect Anydvd to do with your blank media when you insert a new disc, anyway? Anydvd doesn't do anything with blank media. This is only a problem if you stick a movie in drive 2, and Anydvd doesn't see anything. visit http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=2891&postcount=12 (Zebadee's Anydvd works fine).

Or are you saying that drive 2 ceases to work properly? What happens exactly? Does "My computer" not list drive 2?

Would be interesting to see what James thinks, but if drive 2 ceases to work at all, I suspect your issue lies elsewhere (other than the version of Anydvd).

I recommend using good quality blank media (Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden Premium, Maxell Broadcast Quality) and running through these steps:

My problem with Vista and Anydvd 6.1.6.5

I had version 6.1.5.4 and updated it to 6.1.6.5.

Now I'm having trouble with my both DVD drives. Windows Vista can read the inserted discs (DVD movies) but after removing the disc it stops reading any discs (drives are named as DVD-RW all the time). It says that there is no disc.
I need to reboot my PC to be able to enter on discs and need to reboot again to able to read next disc.

Now I will revert back to older version and install newer version after this bug is solved.

As this appears to be an issue on your system only, I'm not sure this is a bug.

1.With Anydvd uninstalled can you reproduce the issue?

Actually, I am having the same issue. I have Windows Vista Business and AnyDVD 6.1.6.5. After my system has rebooted, I can stick in a DVD and Windows sees it. I start AnyDVD and it sees it, but doesn't display the correct information. It only displays the size of each layer and such and Windows doesn't see the disk any more. I restart, start AnyDVD, then put in the DVD and AnyDVD sees it and it works fine. I can rip the DVD.

Once I remove the DVD and insert another DVD, both Windows and AnyDVD say that there is no disk. The only way I can get it to work is to restart.

I wasn't having this issue before 6.1.6.4, nor with it uninstalled. I have uninstalled AnyDVD and I no longer have this issue.

Actually, I should state I am haveing this issue on two computers. I also have AnyDVD installed on my laptop, and I am getting the same exact issue.

I should also add that after I rip a DVD, and the system no longer sees any disks I insert, if I exit AnyDVD, then run it again, it says it can't detect any DVD drives. Also, if I try to access the DVD in windows, it keeps coming up saying that it is currently in use and can not be accessed.

Just a fix to my issue. The DVD MUST be in the drive and recognized by Windows before I start AnyDVD, or else AnyDVD will NOT see the disk, nor will Windows. The DVD drive will no longer recognize new disks AFTER I start AnyDVD. Before AnyDVD is started, all is ok. After it is started, it will not recognize any new disk except for the disk already in there. I have to restart for Windows to see new disks.

Your filters look fine.

Ensure you not using third party ide and sata busmaster drivers (use the ones from Microsoft).

I can't reproduce this issue on 3 xp systems here. My friends' systems aren't having this issue either.

This sounds like a corrupt/bad busmaster driver issue to me, but it could also be a bug in Anydvd that isn't being triggered our systems for some reason.

Also try enabling safe mode in Anydvd. Click the red fox icon on your toolbar. Go to "Progam Settings"-->Safe mode (check that off)-->click "ok".

Maybe James will have some further thoughts, and you may want to report your findings to Slysoft (to see if they have other ideas):

I will try that here in a moment. I just wanted to say that I did change my ide/sata drivers to the Microsoft drivers for my Vista machine. I will look into it for my Laptop, which I should point out is a MacBook Pro. Rebooting now.

Ok, done with the reboots.

I replaced the Intel drivers with the Microsoft drivers. Tried AnyDVD, and still had the same issue. DVD was in the drive before I started AnyDVD, and the DVD was opened. I then ejected the DVD and put in a new one. Again, the disk is not seen. I quit AnyDVD and start it again, and my DVD drive is no longer seen. I set AnyDVD to safe mode and restart. And again I have the same issues. I also can't eject the disk now until I restart.

I have also had the same issues on my Vista box. I have tried every thing you suggested and have the same problem.

Hmm . . . are there any programs that you having installed on both systems that are exactly the same? Antivirus programs? Anti-Spyware? Burning applications?

This issue is very weird. I can't reproduce it no matter what I do.

I also just ran all the windows updates that were made available today, and I still can't reproduce this issue.

Checked and they are from Micro$oft.

It's now in use. Tested, rebooted, tested.. it's the same case, no difference.
 
Have to reboot after every burn..HELP!

Ok, any help would be greatly appreciated....I'm using AnyDVD 6.1.6.5, on both my laptop (which is using Vista home) and my desktop (XP Pro), for some reason i can put a DVD in, back it up, then when i go to burn another, i insert the original DVD and it does not read it anymore, it acts like there is nothing in the drive. I insert a blank DVD to see if it reads it, nothing. I exit AnyDVD, nothing. If i reboot i can read the DVD 1 time and thats it. it also works if i go to device manager and remove the CD/DVD drive, the re-detect it (that way i don't have to reboot). I am out of idea's.... Here's the results from Filter Check...

It also happens in WinXP. However the problem is NOT occuring in my old Pioneer DVD-ROM nor in my virtual drives. Since my burner takes considerably more time to recognize disks than they do, I'm suspecting perhaps it's a timeout issue that's resulting in AnyDVD failing to recognize the drive and locking it up in the process... However 6.1.6.1 works fine...
 
First to Webslinger, when I meant opened, I meant that AnyDVD could read the DVD and decrypt it.

But, new news! I have found a work around, at least on my Vista box. It dosn't work at all on my Windows laptop, but what ever. Here is what I have to do:

1. Put the DVD in to the DVD drive BEFORE AnyDVD is started.
2. Wait for Windows to read the disk.
3. Start AnyDVD. AnyDVD will be able to access the DVD then.
4. Rip the DVD using AnyDVD Ripper. I do this with every disk because I use VobBlanker to remove previews and other things I don't want.
5. When finished riping, EXIT AnyDVD BEFORE you eject the DVD. Make sure it shut down so the driver is unloaded.
6. Eject the DVD, insert another one.
7. Go to 1.

By doing this I don't have to restart my computer after I rip a DVD.

Hope that helps other people!

I should also note the programs I have installed.

Both of them have NOD32 anti virus installed, Spybot Search & Destroy with TeaTimer. My XP laptop has Nero installed, but not the latest version. Both have DVDShrink and DVD Decrypter. I think that is it.

Nice workaround, but that of course doesn't really address the issue why this is occuring all of a sudden with this new version.

I also have Spybot, Nero, DVD Decrypter, but I use Norton as opposed to NOD.

Hopefully the programmers can get this annoying little problem solved permanently and soon.
 
Getting monotonously loud.

What seems to be the conflict between AnyDvd and removable disk drives has become deafening. It appears everybody is complaining about the software.


I do not have problems with AnyDvd and it has afforded me a smoother backup process for my discs. I breeze through the movies, even those that are considered to be problematic, using AnyDvd.

But perhaps this is because I use xp pro, and I stopped accepting updates from Windows.

I refused to get the Vista when the Upgrade Advisor required me to get rid of some third party programs namely the video editing programs.

What I am trying to tell you may just be a figment of my imagination.

But I repeat---I don't have any problem with AnyDvd.

It has always been tailored to solve video editing problems as they come out.
