Big problem!!

CloneDVD v.2.9.0.9
AnyDVD v.6.1.6.5
Using dvd-media: Taiyo Yuden Full-Face printable 8x
Have not installed anything else that might confligt with the programs, other than what Vista is installing when I installed the OS

I've tried everything incl. AnyDVD.

When I install CloneDVD/AnyDVD on my vista ultimate pc, my dvd-drives stop working! I can't even read a dvd i my dvd-rom drive nor burner.
My dvd-rom drive is: Lite-On JLMS XJ-HD166S (DS1A (lateset version)
My burner is: Lite-On LH-18A1P (Firmware GL0F (lateset version)

Please advice, need help badly

If you're using Vista, then click this.

If you have Zonealarm on your system, ensure Anydvd is being given permission to access the trusted zone.
Similarly if you have a firewall, antivirus or spyware program--ensure it's not blocking Anydvd from running.
Provided you downloaded Anydvd from Slysoft's website, Anydvd is a safe program (you have nothing
to be paranoid about).

If you have System Mechanic, System Mechanic Pro, or any kind of registry monitoring program, please ensure
these programs are allowing Anydvd's installation program to modify your registry--as those programs can block
Anydvd from installing properly.

If you keep getting "your trial has ended" messages, despite using your license key
visit http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=196

If Anydvd says your drive is disabled, ignore the message unless you also receive it
when you have a movie inserted in that drive.
Some drives' firmware may report the wrong
information to Anydvd. Often Anydvd will still function properly.
visit http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=2891&postcount=12 (Zebadee's Anydvd works fine)

Right click the Anydvd icon on your desktop. Click "properties". Click the "Compatibility tab". If you're using
Windows XP, ensure the box for "compatibility mode" is not selected. -- thanks to vbro for the information

linx05 says Teatimer enabled on Spybot can cause problems during installation: visit http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=36804&postcount=5

1. Exit out of all Slysoft programs and reinstall

a) Keep your license key file backed up safely
b) Uninstall Anydvd (start-->all programs-->Slysoft--->Anydvd-->Uninstall)
c) Reboot
d) Try running a registry cleaner program at this point like CCleaner
e) Download Anydvd http://static.slysoft.com/SetupAnyDVD.exe
f) Exit all Slysoft programs (including Anydvd, Clonedvd2, Clonecd, Clonecdtray, Clonedvdmobile, etc.). Check Windows Task Manager if you have to.
g) At this point disable your antivirus and firewall programs
h) Reinstall
i) Reboot
j) Install your license key (if required) http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=732
k) At this point enable your antivirus and firewall programs

If that doesn't work go on to step 2.

2. Read http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=1307 fully

3. Click this

Do what it says to do.

4. visit http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=21907&postcount=11 (thanks to Zebadee)
Use one of the programs mentioned, and list your Lowerfilters and Upperfilters in your next post.

Or for XP users only,
Click Start, Run
type regedit
Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Current Control Set\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

We want what's listed in "LowerFilters" and "UpperFilters". List your Lowerfilters and Upperfilters in your next post.

Before you do this visit http://www.cdr-zone.com/forum/about4719.html, and read the first post please, so you can get a better understanding of what is going on.

Do not start randomly deleting filters, please.

5. If Anydvd/Clonedvd2 is locking up at this point, then read http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=24297&postcount=4

I've never seen Pxhelp20 cause problems (granted, on XP systems).

1. Disable User Account Control.

2. a) Keep your license key file backed up safely
b) Uninstall Anydvd (start-->all programs-->Slysoft--->Anydvd-->Uninstall)
c) Reboot
d) Put a commercial dvd movie in your burner. Check to see if your system ("my computer") now reports a disc in drive. Do you see a video_ts folder? Do you see folders or files?

I would really like an answer to this question before I proceed with recommending you reinstall Anydvd with User Account Control disabled.

You realize there's no evidence here of Anydvd even being installed on your system, right? If Anydvd is installed, it's certainly not installed properly.

I don't believe your issue has anything to do with Clonedvd. I believe your issue is related to getting Anydvd to work on your system. Often User Account Control in Vista causes issues for people trying to install Anydvd.

Perhaps Zebadee's Guides will help you:

Also, ensure your burner is set to master (check the jumper on the back of the drive) and that you're using an 80 wire cable with your burner.

Yes I know that AnyDVD is not installet on my system...but the problem is the same for AnyDVD as for CloneDVD

The problem is that I'm using vista not xp.

1) Disabled User Account Control, uinstalled CloneDVD, rebooted my pc
2) Now I can use a dvd movie in my drives again. I can see folders and files.
3) My DVD-rom drive is set to master and my burner is set to slave.

When I look in Device Manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI-controllers it is set to Ultra DMA-2 mode and the "Activate DMA" is enabled, but only when I'm not having a dvd-movie in it. When I put a disc in my drive, the Device Manager is telling that the drive with disc in is in "PIO-4 mode" and the "Activate DMA" is greyed out. How can I change that?
I've tried using the guide on http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.php?p=1712831&postcount=6, but no luck

You wrote something about 80 wire cable and 40 wire cable. I'm using a cable that came with my motherboard (Asus P5W DH Deluxe). I think it's a standard cd/dvd-rom cable (is that a 40 wire cable?)
Why is it important to use a 80 wire cable?

The problem is that I'm using vista not xp.

If you really want to get rid of PXhelp20, then you need to uninstall whatever installed it. "Part of Sonic Burning engine, it's made by prassi/veritas and licensed to Sonic. Comes with Winamp, 1click DivxToDVD and (older versoins of) Digion Audio. "

3) My DVD-rom drive is set to master and my burner is set to slave.

Change this. Many burners function better when set to master.

How can I change that?

http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/a33a9d88-7883-44d2-a7c8-55d3f320c7db1033.mspx

(DMA should be enabled for your burner; ensure that it is).

I don't know. You would have to check.

Why is it important to use a 80 wire cable?

Most newer burners require them to achieve the highest writing speeds, and not using them can also cause issues with newer burners. The Lite-On LH-18A1P supports UDMA 4. UDMA-4 requires an 80 wire cable. An all 18x (or faster) burners I know of require an 80 wire cable.

from http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/ide/confCable80-c.html

# Requirement: The 80-conductor cable was first defined with the original Ultra DMA modes 0, 1 and 2, covering transfer speeds up to 33.3 MB/s. The cable is considered "optional" for those modes. However, for any Ultra DMA modes above mode 2, the 80-conductor cable is mandatory.
# Detection: Since the cable is mandatory for high-speed modes, the system has to have some way of knowing it is installed. This is done by having the /PDIAG:/CBLID signal, carried on pin #34 of the interface, grounded in the connector that attaches to the motherboard. Since the older 40-conductor cable would not have this pin grounded, by looking for the grounding on this pin at startup the host can determine if the 80-conductor cable is installed.

1. Use 80 wire cable (they are cheap)
2. Install new burner as master. Attach the 80 wire cable properly. Set the jumper appropriately to master.

visit http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=28574&postcount=5

and then after switching to an 80 wire cable like he should have to begin with visit http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=28667&postcount=19

Another problem fixed with an 80 wire cable: http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=33922&postcount=4

I'm a bit curious as to why you installed Clonedvd first--and not Anydvd, as Clonedvd requires Anydvd to decrypt movies (basically Clonedvd won't work without Anydvd running in the background to begin with or unless the material you're using has already been decrypted via some other means).

Ok, tried to set the burner to master and dvd-drive to slave...no luck

hmmm....maybe I should by the 80 wire cable and try that (have to wait 2 days because of the weekend)...will post if it works or not when I get it.

Are you currently using a 40 wire cable?

Yes I think so...I've never heard of a 80 wire cable before you wrote it

You literally just need to count the number of wires in order to tell:

ide8040pin.jpg
(from mikeshardware.com)

With 80 wire cables the blue (sometimes red) end goes to motherboard; and the black end goes into burner (set jumper to "master" on the back of the burner).

Got a 80 wire cable and set the burner to master and put it a the end of the cable as I should. Still not working

Did you ever see AnyDVD in your Lower Filters? CloneDVD will not be able to back-up commercial DVDs without it and it wasn't listed in your filters. I would first try to get AnyDVD working unless all the files you have are on your HDD and you just need to burn them. AnyDVD and CloneDVD work with Vista, there are lots of people with it working, so it must be something with the admin or UAC settings that are not allowing it to install, load or work correctly.

There also was some special issues with Liteon drives. Will try to find that post.

I disabled UAC and still not working

When you put a commercial DVD in a drive does AnyDVD recognize the disc? Does the popup say AnyDVD is working and the disc will be ready in a minute or does it not react at all?

AnyDVD doesn't recall a commercial dvd for any of my drives

Yes it is, it's starting with windows when I reboot my pc

I know you checked before, but is your IDE controller driver a mobo or Vista? And is the IDE channel that the burner is on (Primary or Secondary if you have both) still set to DMA if available?
