I just bought and installed an external DVD (HP DVD940E). When I try to use Shrink and encode it gives the error message:
DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Failed to read drive "G:\"
Copy Protection Error - The read failed because the sector is encrypted

Can someone help me out here?

I've been able to use Clone, but not Shrink.

Help!

Thanks.

Joel

1. Try Anydvd 6.1.6.4: http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=5048

2. Do step 8 from here: http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=321, so we can see what you're using. (Note that step 8 requires you to post information)

3. Do step 4 from here: http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=1559 (note that step 4 requires you to post information)

4. Read this fully : http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=328

5. Read this fully as well: http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=3992

6. In Shrink's preferences, do you have "burn with nero" enabled? If so disable that option, and try again.

7. Click the red fox icon on your toolbar. Click Program settings-->enable safe mode. Try again.

8. If either option 6 or 7 works, I would appreciate if you would reply back and let us know. Thanks

Do not create multiple threads about the exact same issue please. Makes troubleshooting difficult . . .

Update....I tried using CloneDVD2 and it would not encode or burn either.

I used DVDFab HD Encrypter to rip the disc and then used Shrink to burn.

The movie is Alone With Her......

You could have just as easily used Anydvd ripper. Dvdfab is completely useless as a decrypter if you own Anydvd. But if you don't want to resolve your problem with Anydvd that's your choice.

You just need to set Your DVD Drive Region @ U.S./Canada = Region 1

>> Go to
> Start > My Computer > Right Click on DVD Drive > Properties > "Hardware" Tab
>> Select DVD Drive from listing > Click "Properties" Button
> "DVD Region" Tab
> Set Your DVD Drive Region = Region 1

One should also exit Anydvd before doing that . . .

I'd be very surprised/interested if setting drive region addresses "Copy Protection Error - The read failed because the sector is encrypted" error code messages in Shrink.

From what I've seen
- on these "Media is locked to region(s): 1!" Discs
- Is that AnyDVD can not - properly -
- Emulate the RPC-2 drive with region 1! ( or Drive's applicable Region )
- If it's not set to Region 1 - in the First Place

There may be more at play here , I'll agree
- but I would at least have the Drive set to the Proper Region
( as AnyDVD allows 'Region Free" Play/Rip ... anyway )

- Imports into Shrink 3.2 directly without any issue (and also reads without issue).
- Imports into Nero Recode 2.5.4.0 directly without any issue
- Imports into Clonedvd 2.9.0.9 directly without any issue

The only time I've witnessed setting a drive's region code being a factor is when Anydvd cannot decrypt css otherwise (or when using a Matshita drive). In those instances, Anydvd will provide you with an error message (and often the warning message can be ignored).

That's not to say I don't consider your suggestion valid; I'd just be very surprised/interested if setting drive region addresses "Copy Protection Error - The read failed because the sector is encrypted" error code messages in Shrink.
