I just switched from disgusting Windows to beautiful Linux.(Ubuntu and gentoo)

How to get Slysoft Products run on Linux? (Don't care about the Linux-System) Someone was successful? I didn't manage, but I'm too stupid and unskilled.

How to watch movies on Linux?

Okay if it's just CSS protected, I can install libdvdcss.
(But what else can I do? Perhaps something legal possible?)

If it's heavily protected with Bad-Sector Protections like "Casino Royale" or "Perfume", how can I play these so far?

I've been considering two software players for Linux :

As far as I know Slysoft doesn't make a version for Linux ( or for the Mac if it comes to that.) so I'm planning to dual boot my Ubuntu install just for programs that won't run on Linux .
I like the occasional pc game but that's not enough to keep me running Windows as my primary OS.

what a pitty. I don't think it's that hard to code a Linux or Mac Version, because it's C++ Code, compiled Visual Studio .Net 2003 and so with an installed .Net Framework and a little work of Slysoft, all products were able to run on Linux and on Mac.(Thanks to M$ for .Net Frameworks!!!)

Come on James, I trust in you. You can do that.
Perhaps it's just a few clicks in your IDE.

I have these players, but even vlc doesn't play copy-protected(CSS) DVDs.
I had to install libdvdcss and a few other things.

BUT heavily protected DVDs are not running on Linux with vlc.
Any idea or help?
In Windows XP it was just the same. Not playable with vlc.

With a few work, games work on Linux, well. Stable and fast.

Hmmnn....
MaximumPC went for a similar solution for DVD playing in their June Linux story(just read it last night).
So it looks like it'll either be that or keep the DVDs on the XP partition, damn.

Where's the problem? Install libdvdcss2. Then all dvds without X-Protect should be run.

Maybe you have missed it, but I explained in detail why this won't work for AnyDVD. AnyDVD is an extension to the operating system, so it must run in kernel mode.

No. It would need to be open source since it would be a kernel mode driver.

Slysoft could do SOMETHING for Linux though. Even if it isn't on the fly.

I use Kubuntu one one of my PC's. If I need to do anything that Linux doesn't do, I just boot into XP.

no it wouldn't, it would just be a loadable module like nvidia and vmware use.

james is taking the easy route out and saying it would be too hard to support across distros
