Im having troubles writing to a blank dvd after i have updated clone dvd and any dvd. It reads it fine but comes up with a message saying " media error, could not write to media". I have tried several new disks to make sure it wasnt just a faulty one. I also did a system restore back to before i did the update, but it wouldnt work, it was coming up with a message saying "cannot read file" . Before i did the update it was burning fine. Can anyone help me out.

We need some info as far as what brand of media and hardware configuration.

Hi not sure what technical stuff that is but i will try to guess.

My CD/DVD Burner is (LITE-ON dvdRW SOHW 1693S)
My CD/DVD Rom is (HL DT ST DVDROM GDR8163B)

Im using DVD-R with 4.7gb and 16x

Not sure if this is what you wanted to know, i have a feeling it might be my burner it might of died. As the dvd i put in there is reading fine just wont burn. I have just uninstalled ANY DVD & CLONE DVD, and reinstalled them, and no change.

You may be having a software conflict. More than one software is trying to access your drive at the same time. We need a list of your Upper and Lower filters to check. And what brand name of media are you using? Junk media is the leading cause of unrecognizable media errors.

1. do points 6 and 8 please

2. Do steps 3 and 4 please (step 4 requires you to post information)

3. Update your burner's firmware (if available)
http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=12794&postcount=10

4. Use good quality media (Memorex, Ritek, Princo, Fuji, TDK from Costco, and Maxell that are not made in Japan are not good quality media). Use Taiyo Yuden 8x Premium, Verbatim, Maxell Plus, or Maxell Broadcast Quality
If you use poor quality blank media, then you should expect problems.

5. Try lowering your burn speed (not below 4x; if you have a 16x burner and 16x rated media try writing to it at 12x instead of 16x; an 8x burn speed on 16x rated media wouldn't be a bad idea either)

6. If you're using +R, +RW, or +R DL media, change the booktype to "dvd-rom"
http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=476 (step 3)

6. Avoid sticker labels (they tend to cause problems)

7. Try setting a custom size of 4300 in Clonedvd (but if you're using good media, you shouldn't have to) if you're using regular single layer dvd-5 (4.7GB) discs.

Bad burn quality is notorious around the end of discs (see step 6)
and also at layer breaks when using low quality DL media (use Verbatim +R DL media, and change the booktype to "dvd-rom)

Also, check the preview screen in Clonedvd to ensure you're backing up the proper title.
