decrypted correctly, e.g. "Deja Vu" (EUR-Germany) hung at the
layer break position when played back with PowerDVD
- Fix (HD DVD & Blu-ray): File sizes of files mapped with "Magic File
Replacement(tm)" and copied with AnyDVD HD ripper could be incorrect.
- Fix (HD DVD & Blu-ray): Multithreaded access to AACS decrypted files could
cause incorrect decryption
- Some minor fixes and improvements
- Updated languages

Saw III

Just a quick question, but first here's my status window for Saw III

I'm just playing around with the new versions of Clonedvd and Anydvd. I threw in Saw III, and to my surprise, the status window is different.

Previous versions of anydvd reported something like "found and removed 88 bad sector protections". This version only reports 6. My question is: is Anydvd reading this disc correctly? I'm ripping it right now w/clonedvd and everything seems to be working great as usual. I was just puzzled by the decrease in bad sector protections.

I'm not sure. Can you try importing the disc directly into Recode with Anydvd running in the background please? If that works, then I would guess Anydvd is working properly despite reporting fewer bad sector protections.

You are using the exact same disc, right (and not one that has been updated by Sony)?

Yeah, I bought this disc the day it came out back in January. It wasn't replaced by the big S.

I used Anydvd and Clonedvd and ripped the entire disc without any issues. Then, the ouput files imported just fine into Recode.

Next, I put the original disc back in w/Anydvd running. The entire disc imported just fine into Recode as well with no issues.

However, I never actually tried transcoding the output files (1st time) or original disc (2nd time) with Recode because I don't actually have a need to back this disc up right now. In both cases, since the files and the disc imported with no issues, I assumed Recode would've handled them without a problem because they imported with no problem.

Hope this helps.

James, I'm not sure of the exact version number. However I'm almost positive it was a version prior to the re-writing of the Anydvd Ripper.

I did find the following from thishttp://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=547 thread.

I also found a status log herehttp://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=20179&postcount=1 [6.1.3.0] and herehttp://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=2519&postcount=3 [6.1.1.4]. The two status logs for 6.1.1.4 are different. But these last two links are both Sony drives and see 90 bad sectors instead of the 89 shown above.

I'll look into it...

James, I did a little research. That, along with the help of DrinkLyeandDie, I was able to narrow the Anydvd version down. Saw 3 was released in the U.S. on Jan 23rd and I bought it the day it was released. The current version of Anydvd at the time (6.1.0.7) could not handle the disc (at least for me, I got an error from Clonedvd saying it was trying to repair the disc structure but couldn't). The next incarnation of Anydvd (6.1.1.3) was able to handle the disc structure without issues. That was the version that I believe gave me around 88-90 bad sector protections on it. Any time there is a new Anydvd release, I usually use Saw 3 as a litmus test to establish that I have everything working alright. To my knowledge, from version 6.1.1.3 on gave me a large number of bad sectors until 6.1.6.0 was released today. Again though, as I posted earlier, 6.1.6.0 handled it great; just gave me a different status window.

Thanks for a great product!

Thanks for the "in case" instructions. for the first time, Any DVD would not load, the annoying thing was, it wouldn't uninstall either? I ran my reg cleaner and tried again, this enabled the uninstall.

I then followed the instructions to the letter and 6.1.6.0 is installed, no problems.:) I assume it's working OK, I will test it later when I have more time.

Thanks again Webslinger, what would we do without you and Slysoft? :)

I am also finding discrepancies between 6.1.5.5 and 6.1.6.0. Here are the status windows for SawIII and Casino Royale

Regarding the difference in the number of "bad sector protections":
I analysed it and I believe this will not cause any problems.

Out of curiosity, is what 6.1.5.5 reports for bad sectors on those discs more accurate than what 6.1.6.0 reports? I understand there are no functional problems with 6.1.6.0. I'm just wondering if 6.1.6.0 is reporting accurate information.

In case of SAW3 I believe the number from 6.1.6.0 is more correct, but it doesn't matter much anyway.

EDIT: I believe the previous approach to mark all suspicious title sets as potential "bad sector graves" is more safe in the long run, so I will probably change it back. But, it doesn't matter. AnyDVD ripper and CloneDVD will ignore these title sets anyway, so it makes no difference.

My "not removing all the protection" alarm bells are ringing again! Ahhhhh!

Seriously, if it doesn't remove all bad sector protections (if I understood correctly) then how does it rip the DVD properly?

My alarm bells rang, too! But it does rip the DVD properly.

Thank you!

To explain it a little more: AnyDVD cannot know how many "bad error ranges" really exist on a DVD, because if you hit one it already is too late.
So, the number AnyDVD tells you is just what AnyDVD believes *might* be a bad sector protection. These numbers might have changed in previous releases as well, as the detection mechanism was tuned from time to time. Going from 90 down to 6 might look a little disturbing, but it is okay.
