I have 20 8mm home movies that we took and had converted oner to DVD. When I try to copy the master DVD I get a NO DISK error when I try to play it in my DVD player. I have turned off anyDVD then copeyed and same thing Turned it back on samething. Does anyone have any ideas why this is not playing in my DVD player?

P.S. I am using clone DVD.... It is also doing this when I try to clone Apocalypto

sounds like the recording media you used is incompatible with your dvd player.
(my daewoo dvd recorder/player doesnt like taiyo yuden discs).
try a different brand of disc such as verbatim or datawrite.

i take it the disc does play on your computer that you copied it on?

Other movies I burn play just fine in this DVD player with this same media. But I will try some different media.

Did you use Clonedvd to do this? If not, what did you use (and then why are you posting your question in the Clonedvd forum)?

Anydvd and Clonedvd are intended for use with retail movies.

Yes I did.. This was done by a company for us. As stated I am trying to make a few other copys and am getting the problem.

mike20021969, by the way, is correct in his assessment.

As for your home movie discs, because they are not retail movie discs, you may have more success using Clonecd instead.
Clonedvd and Anydvd are intended for use with commercially released dvd movies.


1. Update your burner's firmware (if available)

2. Use good quality media (Memorex, Ritek, Princo, Fuji, TDK from Costco, and Maxell that are not made in Japan are not good quality media). Use Taiyo Yuden 8x Premium, Verbatim, Maxell Plus, or Maxell Broadcast Quality
If you use poor quality blank media, then you should expect problems.

3. Try lowering your burn speed (not below 4x; if you have a 16x burner and 16x rated media try writing to it at 12x instead of 16x; an 8x burn speed on 16x rated media wouldn't be a bad idea either)
4. If you're using +R, +RW, or +R DL media, change the booktype to "dvd-rom"

5. Avoid sticker labels (they tend to cause problems)
6. Try setting a custom size of 4300 in Clonedvd (but if you're using good media, you shouldn't have to) if you're using regular single layer dvd-5 (4.7GB) discs.


Bad burn quality is notorious around the end of discs (see step 6)
and also at layer breaks when using low quality DL media (use Verbatim +R DL media, and change the booktype to "dvd-rom)


Also, check the preview screen in Clonedvd to ensure you're backing up the proper title.

Possible Option

I own a standalone DVD/VCR combo recorder and found that depending on how I format the Disc for recording I have had to use DVD Decryptor to make an image and then burn using Clone DVD.

It may be on a DVD, but it is probably in a format similar to an SVCD than DVD movie. CloneCD would be a better choice for the backup.
