Coverting to mp4

Is there a way to convert dvds to standard mp4 format? I am looking to convert for use on the xbox 360 and I do not see a way to do so.

the iPod format-thats MPEG4-will give you great quality.

it looks like every video conversion is MPEG4-just at preset bit rate/qualities depending on which Model you choose

That might work expect I am looking to put these videos onto the xbox and coverting to an ipod screen will result in distortion. Is there any way to convert to get the videos so they look fine on a TV set?

if you choose iPod you can select resolution 640x480 and also use a high video quality setting - that is good enough for tv playback (i.e. you wont get a tiny little iPod sized picture on the telly).
Generic DivX will give you even better resolution settings (up to 720x576).
