Hello, I've been using AnyDVD for some time now. I always keep current when notified.

I've had trouble with selected DVDs - (Pink Panther [original]), Casino Royale, and others that I think were Sony. I've always been able to make it work between older versions of DVD Shrink, or DVD Decrypter - but I'm stumped on License to Kill.

I have a MicroAdvantage Dual Layer 16DDVDRW-A13 DVD, firmware A080, Region code 1, Region Control RPC-2, with an Athlon XP 2700 processor and 1 GB Ram. I run Windows XP Pro, SP-2, latest security updates. I don't have Directcd or Incd. The problem DVD in question is License to Kill, (special 007 edition), region 1, format type UDF 1.02, DVD info pro says Regions 1-8. Writing to DVDs is not the problem, so I won't post media info for the write (never an issue). I'm using 6.1.4.3 and it doesn't matter what I do. Using the 6.1.4.3 ripper, I get the error:
FileIO 3 VTS_1_04.VOB 823613440 358400. The software then aborts. Per AnyDVD:

Summary for drive F: (AnyDVD 6.1.4.3)
16X8 DVD DUAL A080 050306AOPAB0307628
Drive (Hardware) Region: 1

Media is a DVD.
Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (opposite)
Size of first Layer: 2045776 sectors (3995 MBytes)
Total size: 3677883 sectors (7183 MBytes)

Video DVD (or CD) label: LICENCE_TO_KILL
Media is CSS protected!
Video Standard: NTSC
Media is locked to region(s): 1!

RCE protection not found.
DVD structure appears to be correct.
Structural copy protection not found.
Autorun not found on Video DVD.
Bad sector protection not found.
Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 1!

Prior to that my common error (with the last couple of versions) was the cyclc file error.

How do I submit this to them to figure out what's going on?

Thanks

Do step 8 and 9 please from here

For CRC errors, read this
(clean your disc or exchange it; even if it plays fine there's something wrong with your original)

Sorry Webslinger, I realized that just after posting and was providing that info when you responded. It's there now.

I think I just noticed in your other link that I'm RPC-2. I think I need to change - researching.

There's so little protection on that disc, DVD Shrink 3.2 can handle it. You have a bad original disc, even if it plays fine. You can try cleaning it, repairing it, or exchanging it.

Webslinger - that site for RPC-1 says none available. Suggestions?

Yes. You have a bad original disc, even if it plays fine. You can try cleaning it, repairing it, or exchanging it.

If you want, you can try other methods of ripping (such as drag and drop using Windows Explorer, or using Anydvd ripper). However, if you have a good original disc you should not need to be trying other methods.

OK - I'll try getting another and see how it works. In the mean time I downloaded a trial version of DVD Region+CSS Free and am trying it out. Is that a problem with AnyDVD running as well?

Yes, it is a problem. Use one or the other, but don't have both running at the same time.

dvd region + css free hasn't been updated since Oct. 2006 (and development on that program is currently "paused" as of this post), so it can't handle newer protections (nor can it handle R2 German Protect-dvd titles). However, given that the disc you're having problems with just has css protection something as simple as dvd43 (which is freeware and abandonware) can handle that disc. Pretty much anything that decrypts css can handle it (lots and lots of programs to choose from). There's absolutely nothing interesting in terms of protection on License To Kill R1.

In the future, for Casino Royale (and other similar releases), please read this

OK - did it again with a DIFFERENT License to Kill disk. Same problems, same errors.

Both disks looked beautiful on the bottom - I don't think either was bad. They both play well. With Shrink 3.2, cyclic errors. With AnyDVD ripper, File IO. Windows Explorer gets lost tyring to copy the same file.

Please advise.

Well, Shrink should be able to handle that disc without Anydvd at all.

Perhaps there's something the matter with your filters.

1. Do steps 3 and 4
please (note that step 4 requires you to post information; do not start randomly deleting filters, please)

2. Run VSO inspector and scan the disc. VSO inspector is a free program. If VSO inspector reports read errors either the disc is damaged/defective or your drive is dying.

OK - did number 3, now AnyDVD can't read the disk and pretty much locked up the machine. I ended it and did #4:

LOWERFILTERS: AnyDVD ElbyCDFL Pfc PxHelp20 Cdr4_xp
Upperfilters: Cdralw2k GEARAspiWDM

I think I'm being told to request the LockedIO registry patch?

At this point, should I put my IDE driver back the way it was?

Used by Roxio Easy Media Creator, WinOnCD 6, DragtoDisc and DirectCD.

Ugh, packet writing software (don't use packet writing software)

Upperfilters: Cdralw2k

1. Uninstall the programs that installed cdr4_xp and cdralw2k in your filters.
2. Check to ensure cdr4_xp (in particular) and cdralw2k (may not be an issue, but I'm not positive) are no longer in your filters

If you have dragtodisc or directcd on your system, uninstall it. These programs, by themselves, would explain your problem.

3. After doing 1 and 2, do this:

Exit out of all Slysoft programs and reinstall

a) Keep your license key file backed up safely
b) Uninstall Anydvd (start-->all programs-->Slysoft--->Anydvd-->Uninstall)
c) Reboot
d) Try running a registry cleaner program at this point like CCleaner
e) Download Anydvd http://static.slysoft.com/SetupAnyDVD.exe
f) Exit all Slysoft programs (including Anydvd, Clonedvd2, Clonecd, Clonecdtray, Clonedvdmobile, etc.). Check Windows Task Manager if you have to.
g) At this point disable your antivirus and firewall programs
h) Reinstall
i) Reboot
j) Install your license key (if required) http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=732
k) At this point enable your antivirus and firewall programs

4. Run VSO inspector and scan the disc. VSO inspector is a free program. If VSO inspector reports read errors either the disc is damaged/defective or your drive is dying.

OK - I'll probably tackle this tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

OK - a bit of work. I did try this DVD on another machine where I don't have AnyDVD, and like you suggested Shrink 3.2 did it fine, so we know the DVD is OK.

Next I followed your instructions step by step. After uninstalling any potential apps that may have loaded those 2 filters, I edited the registry deleting all links that referenced them. I also deleted the files from the system32 folder (.dll adn .exe). I ran CCleaner as instructed and deleted/fixed all it recommended.

I had to reinstall VSO to get it to work, right now it's scanning. It's having to re-read some sectors (7 tries, 2 tries, 5 tries, etc.), and on some it's failed. All the failed codes are 00 00 00 [No sense information]. It's at that same point (I think) on this DVD where this machine has hung up before (maybe those are the files/sectors that they encrypted). It will be a while. The status right now is 57.2% good, .1% problem, and .1% Error.

After this, I'll try ripping with AnyDVD to see what happens.

so we know the DVD is OK.

Not necessarily. Some drives can read through errors and scratches better than others.

Please do step 4, so I can see the current status of your filters.

Well, you can try, but I suspect it will be pointless to rip with Anydvd on that system; if VSO is showing read errors, then I can't imagine Anydvd wouldn't also error out reading the disc. If you're getting read errors, the issue is either the disc, your filters, or your reader (optical drive).

Run VSO inspector again with that disc on the system where Shrink did work.

If you get read errors on that system as well, the disc is damaged, even if you did manage to back it up using Shrink. If you don't get read errors, the issue is either your filters--or more likely (at this point) the optical drive is dying.
