Maybe I just never paid enough attention. Has anyone else had this experience with this movie?

Well, I never did watch this backup on standalone players but it played fine on my computer.

I went to watch it last night and it wouldn't go to the movie when I hit play from the menu. It dumped me back to the menu. So, I thought maybe I had messed up when I made the backup but the more I thought about it the more I knew I hadn't.

The backup plays fine on my computer and goes to the movie from the menu when I tell it to. The backup plays fine on my JVC DVD player. The movie will not play on my Apex DVD player. The Apex throws me back to the menu. And, no, I didn't use VobBlanker or mess around with the menus. Is this a result of the errors that showed up in the log when I copied the disc with AnyDVD & CloneDVD? Has anyone else actually made a backup of this movie?

That's perfectly fine. I believe you should see it with every backup since about one year because of this:

Version 2.8.9.5: 2006 04 22

- New: Time Maps are always recreated, as they are sometimes
destroyed on the source disc

EDIT: I am not sure if *this* log entry is always shown. Anyway, no need to worry. CloneDVD corrected a problem from your *original*. The copy should play better than the source (try ZoomPlayer, it is sensitive to incorrect time maps)

Did you use the "jump to title Menu" option of anydvd? If yes, then disable it, maybe it is causing the problem

Good point. The problem is certainly not related to the time maps.

I've never seen it in any logs before and generally I always only view the log window. It stood right out to me.

No. I never use this feature. Ever.

I'm at a total loss. I literally only used AnyDVD & CloneDVD and selectively removed some trailers and a very long behind the scenes title. The rest I kept. I didn't touch it with VobBlanker or anything else. The rip was good. The burn was good.

I took the freakin' backup and ripped the main movie title out of it with no menus and it plays fine on the Apex player. Something between the menu and playing the title is messed up.

I guess I'll just try making another backup from the original and see what happens. I was just hoping someone else had made a backup of this title so I would know if this error - the one in the CloneDVD log - was normal for this movie or if it was an issue with my original disc.

I'm just jumping in here and admit that I haven't fully read the entire thread, so, take my advice with a grain of salt, but, if you think there's an issue there, use PGCEdit's trace mode to see what's going on. Compare it to the original and see if you can find the difference.

I'll be the first one to admit right now that I'm too much of a clueless fool to figure out this stuff in PgcEdit. I did actually try to do this but I'm beyond lost. I'm too frustrated to sit down and read the relevant help files, etc. It's on my todo list.

I looked at everything again and said screw it and put it in the DVD player again. Now I can't get it to error. The weird part is it errored a bunch of times earlier and I took the DVD out and put it back in. I powered off the DVD and turned back on multiple times, etc, to make sure it wasn't the player. The error remained. Now it's gone. *sigh* I'm going to chalk it up to the DVD player being a pain in the butt. The only other time I had problems was with my AvP backup and that one was my fault. This one is definitely not my fault.

Murphy's Law.

I just finished watching the original backup I made. No glitches at all now. Go figure. So, it appears to be a fluke that it ever happened and the DVD player, itself, was to blame. I plan on giving it a good cleaning although it really shouldn't need it.
