AnyDVD says my drive is disabled

Hey, I bought a new laptop and reinstalled AnyDVD on it. The problem is that it says my dvd drives (1 hardware and 2 virtual drives) are disabled and won't detect that I've put a disc into my DVD drive. I've updated the program to the latest version. I've also read around on the forum here to get some tips. For example reinstalled the standard Microsoft IDE controller as was suggested in one topic and did a clean reinstall. I found one thread relating to upper and lower class drivers I downloaded the checking utility and have included this info below. I'm currently on WinXP Pro SP2.

If Anydvd says your drive is disabled, ignore the message unless you also receive it
when you have a movie inserted in that drive. Some drives' firmware may report the wrong
information to Anydvd. Often Anydvd will still function properly.

Cheap (Panasonic OEM) drives, which is why laptop companies love them . . .

Used by Sonic and Veritas. Yet unknown in which software it is used (possibly backup software).

pxhelp20 - Part of Sonic Burning engine, it's made by prassi/veritas and licensed to Sonic. Comes with Winamp, 1click DivxToDVD and (older versoins of) Digion Audio.


Provided when you insert an original disc Anydvd still says your drive is disabled, uninstall all Sonic and Veritas software until the filters I quoted are no longer listed.

I had a look at my Drive settings and its set to Region 4 (for my Australian discs). When I started up AnyDvD, I got the message that no drive was detected but when I put in an original disc, I didnt get the same message. When I opened up the program, there was no disc entry in the CSS archive and under each of the disc drive tabs (including the 2 virtual drives) in the "status" option in settings, it told me the drives were disabled.

What if I then stick in a disc but don't get the error message but the Ripper function says "AnyDVD" is not active for Drive D". Also now that I've enabled the CSS archive, it still won't add the discs to the archive or display any information about the disc (which I've also enabled).

I know people have been saying that for AnyDVD to work with Matsushita drives, certain settings need to be in place (namely the region coding of the drive) which I've checked and are all fine.

Keep in mind if the CSS archive is enabled and Anydvd happens to get the CSS key wrong the first time, Anydvd will then aways get that key wrong in subsequent attempts because the wrong key will be retrieved from the archive instead of Anydvd trying to obtain the CSS key properly again.
