Hi there.

I've been using CloneDVD for quite a while now without problems... that is until now. I have been doing a bit of researching on this and other forums but have as yet not encountered a problem that is similar enough to give me some idea as to waht the solution maybe. I am not the worlds most technical person so you will have to bare with me as I describe the problem.

Everything is fine until I get to the burn, clonedvd does it's setting of borders and flushing something? As soon as it says it's writing to the disc it gives me the "writing failed... bad media message." The strange thing is if I insert a disc and retry it will do it without a problem, same seems to go for if I do it from the hard drive rather than straight from disc, the write is fine. This is a consistent problem and only occurs with the first disc I try and will ALWAYS write on the second disc without fail. I'm using Taiyo Yuden discs so am a bit pushed to believe it's bad media. I cannot think of any reason for this, the only thing I have to add is that I have recently uninstalled Interactual DVD player from my computer and had to point my autorun to powerdvd instead, although have no idea if this would cause a problem or not but thought I'd mention it. Does anyone have any idea's please.

Do what it says to do.

2.Update your burner's firmware (if available)

3. Try lowering your burn speed (not below 4x; if you have a 16x burner and 16x rated media try writing to it at 12x instead of 16x)

4. visit http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=21907&postcount=11 (thanks to Zebadee)

filters

I'm assuming this is correct, as I said I'm not the most technically minded.

An Upper Filter found is: Cdralw2k
Filterdriver properties are:

A Lower Filter found is: ElbyDelay

As for burn speed, I always burn at 4x and have never had a problem till now.

discovered

I have also discovered that if after the dvd has been ripped to the drive i don't let it automatically continue by inserting a blank media, but instead cancel it and then insert media and click the write button it doesn't fail then either.

An Upper Filter found is: Cdralw2k

Cdralw2k - Used by Roxio Easy Media Creator, WinOnCD 6
A Lower Filter found is: Cdr4_2K

Used by Roxio Easy Media Creator, WinOnCD 6, DragtoDisc and DirectCD

1, If you have either Directcd or DragtoDisc installed on your system, uninstall it until CDr4_2k no longer appears in your filters. Packet writing software often causes problems with other burning software, and it's an unstable form of saving files. If you want that type of "drag-and-drop" functionality (as you would drag and drop to a floppy drive), use dvd-ram instead.

4. If you have a 16x burner and are using 16x rated media, burning at 4x is not recommended.

5. Also you may want to ensure your burner isn't slaved to anything, and that it is set to "master".

Changes

I have completed step 2 and changed to that standard dual channel thingy, ha. I have also looked for that software you said to remove but cannot find a trace of either of them on here so have no idea on that as yet. I'am using Taiyo Yuden 8x media at the moment which is why I run at 4x.

I haven't done a disc since making the changes but will do so shortly to see if the change has made any difference. In the meantime any other offerings just in case would be nice.

Oh, I haven't as yet updated my drivers firmware but i have had a look at what to do and it kinda sounds complicated to me.

curious

Out of curiousity what does changing to the standard dual channel thingy do?

packet writing

I don't think I have any packet writing software on here, although as i'm not overly great with computers I'm not 100% sure what I'm looking for but after doing a search on google I couldn't find any of the programs listed as packet writing on my system.

I just find it strange that it won't work for the first disc but never fails on the second disc and that if i stop the auto write and then tell it to write it works also. it's almost like it has trouble accessing the disc from an autorun kind of stand point.

burner

how do I check that my burner isn't slaved to anything?

You may not think so, but you obviously have. You previously posted:
"A Lower Filter found is: Cdr4_2K"

You should know by yourself what you have installed on your PC. It's not that hard to find out, just take a look at your installed software list and the active icons in your system tray.
