Can anyone give me a definative answer as to what the purpose of this option is?

Does it make the quality better if checked, or unchecked? Does it make the file smaller, or larger?

Any information would be of great help.

i thought it was to do with 'smoothing out' the movement between frames/fields in certain video when there are fast moving (action) sequences.

depending on the video,may improve the quality.wouldnt think it'd make much difference as to file size.
