Have been using Clone2 and AnyDVD fine.

Then tried Casino Royale and The Departed and my world fell apart.

Started getting bad media error 10 11 w. But not at burner start up. Error would pop up about 1/3 into movie.

At first I thought it was the movies, so I tried a older movie. Same issue.

I have checked burner and burner software. Burner is Sony DRU-500a version 2.1. Burner tests ok using Sony drive check software.

Using latest Clone and Any versions.

***Anyway, after reinstalling DVD burner and current Clone/ANY software. Burning at 4x, DVD-5. The burner will burn 'the' movie. BUT, the DVDs will not play or be seen by any DVD player I have. Nothing shows up. It is clear the DVDs have written material on them.

DVD material: Was using Sony R+ 1.2/1x-8x, went out and bought some Memorex R+ 1-16x to test (mistake I see on forums), now trying Verbatim R+ 1x-8x. The Sony material has worked fine in the past, as well as the Verbatim.

Burner is Sony DRU 500a. Version 2.1. Drive check tests ok.

DVD slave is BENQ.

Home player is Sony DVP-NS715P. This player was selected because it will play anything.

Any ideas? Lots of coasters on this end....

Been there and tried everything.

I cannot get the bookmark software to work. One version I get the gray boxes. The other software seems to be a dead link.

I have searched for this problem for several days. Tried everything I could on the above link. Hence my post here. Lost...

Well...hang on. The imgburn site seems to be back up. It was down and gone the other night.

Alright, I'm back.

Was able to download imgburn. New problem. My Sony drive is not listed. My choices are under drives:

Nutech, Plextor, Ricoh, Samsung, Benq, LG, Lite-on, NEC.

Internet search appears Sony drives are made by Sony.

Suggestions?

Also. I am able to see some of my registry via imgburn:

Upper device filter: Redbook
Upper class filter: Gearaspiwdm
Device: CD/DVD-ROM device
Lower class: AnyDVD
Lower device filter: {none found}

Using v. Anydvd 6.1.3.3 Clone 2.9.0.3

Where can I find taiyo yuden 8x dvd-r ? Do I really need to switch to R-? Have been using R+ for years with no burn issues...

Also....what is being burned to the DVDs? Have the dyes changed that much?

No. Some are lite-ons, some are Benqs, etc.
Edit: Yours was made by Sony though.

I just read http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=108712
that your drive does not support booktype changes.
Consequently, it's possible dvd+r would be a bad choice for you in
general should you wish to ensure standalone dvd players will play
your backups.

Where can I find taiyo yuden 8x dvd-r ?

It depends on where you live. I doubt I live in the same country as you. Many Americans seem to order Taiyo Yuden from
Rima.com but I have no experience with Rima.

Edit: I'm reading that your drive only support ups to 2x writing to +R media. So you're also probably buying +R media that won't work well with your drive. I strongly recommend you try Taiyo Yuden 8x (Premium line) dvd-r instead

2.4X writing (DVD+RW/+R) 2X (max.) writing (DVD-RW) 4X (max.) writing (DVD-R) 8X (max.) reading (DVD-ROM) 24X (max.) writing (CD-R), 32X (max.) reading 10X (max.) writing (CD-RW), 32X (max.) reading

For that matter, I'd recommend getting a new burner.

Been using R+ for years....no issues.

Did find something in imgburn.

Under Tools then Settings.

There is a 'write' menu. Mine was showing 'auto.' Going to try 'DVD.'

Yes I know about the 2.4x. Sony had a software 2.1 upgrade to 4x back in 2004 or so. Still the media is getting faster then the burner. And now that the burners are so cheap...may be time to upgrade...

Even a 4x write speed on 16x rated media can produce poor results depending on the burner and the blank media used. If your drive can't do bitsetting changes, then it might make sense to use dvd-r instead.

Burners do also die over time. Yours is certainly not young anymore.

Wow...it may be fixed.

As a quick test. I just copied the 'making of The Jackel' bonus menu. It worked. Was even set at max speed by mistake..

I just thought of that. I was looking for a short movie as a test. Then it hit me....copy the trailer rather then the whole movie. 20 minute test start to finish.

It plays on computer and plays on home DVD player.

So in my case....(Sony)....it appears using imgburn....go to tools....then settings....then write.....then change from 'auto' to 'dvd.'

Now I will try a whole movie. If that works I will report back with the news. I have to get ready for work so it will be tommorrow before I report back.

Thanks for the help so far. My day is a little brighter now...whew...been messing with this for days....

Please click the red fox icon in your system tray. Select "status" on the left hand side of your screen. With the problematic disc inserted in your computer, click the appropriate drive tab letter (the drive containing the disc) in Anydvd. In the window below the drive letter, copy and paste the information Anydvd gives you in you next post.

Please do that for both the original and the copy you just made.

I'm back in business. Everything is working. Amazing how one small setting can mess you up.

For Sony DRU 500a drives. Imgburn...then 'tools'...then 'settings'...then 'write'....then change from 'auto' to 'DVD.'

Just backed up complete Madagascar movie. Never can have enough of those around with my kids.

Start to finish 37:12.

So my problem is fixed. Thanks for your help.

Uh, ok, but that doesn't actually do anything unless you're burning with Imgburn.
And as your Anydvd status window indicates, the booktype still shows "dvd+r": "Booktype: dvd+r" as opposed to "dvd-rom"

My impression, then, is that you ran into a few bad blank discs.

Problem is back....cant be media ....I have had more 'bad' media in the last 10 days then life total..No, something really goofy is going on...sony+r, memorex+r, verbatim+r all bad...no..

I agree. It should not work. But Imgburn somehow unlocked that Sony burner...had been trying for days to get that burner to work...everything....almost replaced it. Hence my last ditch effort post...

As posted earlier...these test burns did work fine and fast.

Test burn of movie trailer for 'The Jackel' works fine on all players.
Test burn of 'Madagascar' movie works fine on all players.

Then. Casino Royale...system falls apart. My computer system did seem to have an issue when the movie and blank were put in the drives...system seem to semi-lock up a bit for 4-5 minutes. Note: I was also trying to access intenet at the same time.

Tried Casino Royale....back into it. Bad burn...Nothing can see this disc. Verbatim 1x-8x media. 4x burn. Current Anydvd and Clone. Current Sony burner drivers. I suspect all future burns to also be bad...until bug is figured out..

Here is what ANYDVD sees for Casino Royale..

Not so fast....cant be media ....I have had more 'bad' media in the last 10 days then life total..No, something really goofy is going on...sony+r, memorex+r, verbatim+r all bad...no..

Toss the Memorex media, and try Taiyo Yuden 8x dvd-r media--or try a new burner.
At this point, it's either your blank media or your burner, and if you're positive it's not your blank media, then . . .
Verbatim +R media is usually pretty good (although I'm not overly fond of Verbatim +R media that's made by Prodisc).

Those steps you did in Imgburn didn't do anything--trust me.

If you want, do this:

isit http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=21907&postcount=11 (thanks to Zebadee)
Use one of the programs mentioned, and list your Lowerfilters and Upperfilters in your next post.

Or for XP users only,
Click Start, Run
type regedit
Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Current Control Set\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

We want what's listed in "LowerFilters" and "UpperFilters". List your Lowerfilters and Upperfilters in your next post.

I doubt your filters are bad though.

Anydvd and Clonedvd handle Casino Royale R1 without any issues by the way.

I have tried that...going to regedit. I dont quite see exactly what you see..using XP.

I know just enough to get me into trouble..LOL. I really dont know what I'm looking at.

Anyway, I noticed imgburn also can 'see' this info:

Upper device filter: Redbook
Upper class filter: Gearaspiwdm
Device: CD/DVD-ROM device
Lower class: AnyDVD
Lower device filter: {none found}

Yeah...maybe time for new burner with support. The burner clearly works ok..with software support. In this case, it appears there is none. It is old (2003) but does work with ok software. Mine is Sony made Sony software only.

Man...$$$ at the time $350. 2.4x..now 18x for $100. Times do change.

Reminds me of my first MP3 player. Diamond Rio..32mb. Zero support for that now. Some hack software but its not the same. Of course, I now use 60g video iPod. So that 32mb Diamond means nothing to me..(joke). I think we gave it to goodwill...

I will try to get the system back. But that damn Bond disc FU the system again.
