AnyDVD suddenly not recognizing disc drives

Three days ago I backed up a new movie I purchased - no problem. Last night I tried to back up another new movie and the burn failed. If I check the status of the disc drives, only the disc drive with the movie shows up. My other two drives either have the message "no disc detected" even if there is indeed a blank disc in them, or I get the message "AnyDVD cannot activate the disc drive" (or something similar to that terminology).

Any one have any idea why it would work one day and not the other?

I'm running the latest version of AnyDVD (I've removed and reinstalled it). I've got XP. I don't think it has anything to do with the time change as I have successfully burned another disc since. And, I have tried other movies to no avail.

You know, insanity is when you try the same thing over and over expecting different results. Apparently, that doesn't apply to computers.

Oh yes, I've also uninstalled and reinstalled the DVD drives to no avail.

Look, I appreciate the help. I really do. But I've already done everything that those forums say to do.

Last night I replaced both DVD burners which were getting the error.

I'm still getting the error.

The bottom line is that I've had AnyDVD for over a year and have had no problems with it. 5 days ago it burned a movie just as fine as always. 4 days ago it didn't. And it still won't. It has just suddenly stopped working even though NOTHING has been changed by me. Is it a Daylight Savings issue? Is it a new version issue? I'd really like to know.

And, I'd really appreciate Slysoft getting back to me since it's been more than 48 hours since I contacted them about it. I have paid for this software, so I'd really like to use it.

In the meantime, I downloaded DVD43. It worked wonderfully, and I was able to make a backup of my new movie last night.

:agree: Yep! The problem as quoted is vague. We should at least get specifics as to eqpt. and procedure.

I would first click on the fox icon and then click on drives/selection to check whether the drives I am concerned with are selected. If the drives are unchecked, well.....

Have you that program ripIt4me?

Forget vague!

It works one day, it doesn't work the next. The problem is with AnyDVD - end of discussion.

It's ok, though. I deleted AnyDVD from my hard drive, installed the FREE DVD43 program, and have had no problems backing up my latest movies - including Casino Royale.

DVD43 is no longer being updated to work with the latest copy-protections. If you don't help us we cannot help you.

Isn't Casino Royale in fact the very latest Sony abortion??

PS: His problem is NOT AnyDVD - it's gotta be some strange interaction.

Unfortunately you have NOT done what has been requested.

Knowledgeable inform Forum Members ARE attempting to assist you. You have been asked to provide specific information (refer to postings #3 and #5). You have failed to provide the requested information. Until you take the time and effort to provide the requested information knowledgeable inform Forum Members will be unable to provide any meaningful assistance to you.

You need to step back and logically look at what has happened. The AnyDVD software program was working properly on your computer for over a year and then all of a sudden the AnyDVD software program stopped working properly. So logically think about this - the AnyDVD software program did work correctly on your computer for over a year but suddenly stopped working correctly. So there is nothing “Wrong” with the AnyDVD software program. Contrary to your statements something has changed on your Computer to cause the AnyDVD software program from suddenly stop operating correctly on your. You need to review postings #3 and #5 and take the time and effort to provide the requested information. When you provide ALL the requested information knowledgeable inform Forum Members will analyze the provided information and suggest corrective action to get the AnyDVD software program operating correctly on your computer.

Coaster

By the way, the only way I can possibly imagine that DVD43 would help anything with that Sony nonsense for a full disk backup including full menus is maybe with 1-Click (with CPRX enabled). Otherwise, forget it . . .
Dvd43 is abandonware and basically just does CSS decryption (and that's about it) on the fly.

Hey, if free software works for you then this is good for you. I, too, would prefer using free software if it works.

As regards AnyDvd, if it works for you one day and doesn't the next, why don't you use it on the days that it works. :agree:

BTW, anybody try backing up Pursuit of HappyNESS, yet?

OOps! It hasn't come out yet, has it?

It doesn't. It's abandonware and next to useless unless you're using 1-Click.

Yes. visit http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=2650&highlight=pursuit (this person backed up that R1 titles using Anydvd/Clonedvd without any problems)

There are no issues when using Anydvd/Clonedvd, but you can only obtain the main movie if you're using Anydvd and Shrink exclusively: visit http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=885
