I AM JUST WONDERING IF COPYING NEW MOVIES SEEMS TO BE GETTING HARDER OR IS MY HARDWARE GETTING OLDER.
TODAY I TRIED COPYING FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS AND I KEPT GETTING THIS ERROR.
File 1 D:/VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_4.VOB 23 TCSectorReader
AFTER CLEANING AND HAVING IT STOP 3 MORE TIMES STARTING OVER 3 TIMES AND THREE MORE STOPPAGES IT FINALLY SEEMS TO BE FINISHING. BUT ERRORS LIKE THAT HAVE COME UP MORE REGULARILY AND THESE ARE FAIRLY NEW RELATIVELY SCRATCH FREE DISCS.
I AM USING NEWEST ANYDVD AND CLONEDVD2 AND HAVE BEEN FOR ALMOST A YEAR MOSTLY WITHOUT PROBLEMS UNTIL MORE RECENTLY.

MY READER IS HL-DT-STDVDROMGDR8163B
I'VE BEEN USING THIS FOR ALMOST THREE YEARS AND HAVE COPIED AROUND 500 MOVIES.
OBVIOUSLY I AM NOT A TECH GUY AND MAYBE I SHOULDN'T EVEN BE ASKING BUT I WAS JUST WONDERING IF IT'S MY HARDWARE WEARING OUT OR WHAT.
MY BURNER IS NEC DVD+RW ND 3530A 102B
THANKS FOR YOUR POSSIBLE INCOMING HELP

It may be a bad original. I've seen it before myslf as DVD players don't get all the info a computer does. Try another original before getting too upset. That flick worked fine for me.

Why are you yelling?

1. Please do not type in all caps; it's the same as screaming on the internet.

2. Yes, quality control issues are increasing; bad original discs are becoming an issue.

Typing In Caps

Sorry About That I Always Type In Caps
I Can't Help People's Preconceptions
It's Just Easier To Type In Caps And Easier For Me To See What I've Typed. My First Emails Were In Caps And Bold So I Could See Them. I've Toned Down. Just Can't Stop With The Caps. Too Hard To Read Upper And Lower For Me. Sorry! When I Write A Note Long Hand I Use Caps. Not Everyone Follows Someone Else's Idea Of Ettiquette.
So What Do You Think The Life Expectancy Of A Dvd Rom Drive Is?
Thanks
Carwin
P.s. Why Would Anyone Be Mad When They're Asking For Help?
Thanks

. Not Everyone Follows Someone Else's Idea Of Ettiquette.

Yeah, all-caps is just generally accepted as screaming or yelling on the internet (and after being on the internet for over 10 years, it's just very jarring to read all-caps; one becomes accustomed to viewing all-caps as screaming).

So What Do You Think The Life Expectancy Of A Dvd Rom Drive Is?

I'm not sure. But in my original response, I meant there's a quality control issue in terms of bad original discs that are coming out--not drives..

Why Would Anyone Be Mad When They're Asking For Help?

I didn't think you were "mad"; all-caps is just very jarring to read.

Caps Not Mad

Thanks for fixing my reply to upper and lower is that a keyboard function "changing text" that way. i used to know one before but have since forgotten it.
This copy problem wasn't just one disc, it has happened to a few discs lately and i'm just trying to narrow down the possiblities. There are so many and sometimes the last thing you think of is your own equipment. The movie discs all play fine i just thought that maybe the software needs a little more info than my drive is giving it.
thanks again much appreciated trying to get out of the cap habit but after 20 years of writing scripts in caps for v.o. guys old habits die hard

Yeah, it's entirely possible your drive is dying (and burners slowly dying are difficult to diagnose). But lately, I'm noticing an increase in bad original discs being sold.

The movie discs all play fine i just thought that .

A bad original disc can play fine in standalone players, but still be flawed.

There are SEVERAL issues in flux right now: (aside from the noted rise in defective DVD's in general)

There are some new Sony protections that seem to be unreadable for certain drives AND stand alone DVD players. At a hardware level.

Some of those same protections seem to be confounding AnyDVD's ability to work with some third party rippers (like DVDShrink)

There is a chance (based on a Casino Royal report) that AnyDVD 6.1.3.0 may be missing a protection detect - I think ARCOS.

Some Lite-On drives seem to be having issues. Not sure what hardware software combo's are in play there.

Windows Vista adds another variable to the clue field.

Best thing is to keep reading these boards... all the clues eventually come here to roost. :D
