Use the AnyDVD"Ripper" first
Import the 'Ripper" Result Folder - into Nero

Right Click on the AnyDVD Fox in your sys tray
> Rip Video Disc to Hard Drive

Movies that may require AnyDVD ripper if you're using Shrink/Nero Recode

Try ripping the disc to your HDD first using the AnyDVD ripper. Once you have it ripped to your HDD then import it into Recode.

Both DVD Shrink and Recode can have issues when dealing with discs containing structural protections. It is recommended to use the AnyDVD ripper as a first step.

thanks ill try that. i see there is a clone dvd 2. i might have to try that version. i didnt like the first version but maybe the second will be better.

CloneDVD2 is very much worth having. Regardless of what I may do with a disc after ripping it to my HDD I generally always use CloneDVD2 to do the initial rip. CloneDVD2 also won't encounter the issues that DVD Shrink and Recode suffer. :)

that soultion didnt work. nero gives an error when i try to import the anydvd ripped file...says there are no more files. well i spose i ill have to try clone dvd

thanks for the info. im using clone dvd now to backup the movie. no disrespect intended but this is the first time in over 200 movies that i have had a problem with nero and i like its many more features and easy to use gui than clone dvd. nero also lets me copy on the fly which is great cuz i can backup a main title movie in about 10 mins with excellent picture quality and sound. it's possible i just overlooked that option in clone dvd.

You better start getting use to it, because Recode simply can't handle some dvds properly: visit http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=3992

This may be one of them. If you want, you can try importing your rip into dvdshrink instead.

What Clonedvd can do is split a movie over two discs while retaining the main menus (In this manner, no picture quality is lost). Recode and Shrink can't retain menus over split discs. And Shrink and Recode can do a lot of other things that Clonedvd can't do.

Anyway, you can burn on the fly in Clonedvd using "Write existing data", but burning on the fly, in general, is not advisable, regardless of the program you're using.

wow. i didnt mean to offend you. i appreciate your help and info. i just like nero better is all. i tried using your clone dvd but it wont backup the movie either. And if i have a movie that is to much for a dvd 5 disc then i just use a dvd 9 disc. one out of over 200 aint bad for nero.

I don't work for Elaborate Bytes (who develops Clonedvd) nor Slysoft. So it's not my program (I have no invested interest in what program you use). I'm just telling you the facts; I'm not upset.

Anyway, if you want help with this disc, you need to provide full error messages from Clonedvd.

  • State the full error message(s) you encountered (click "details"),
  • tell us what version of Clonedvd you were using, and
  • describe in detail what you were doing when you received the error message(s). What problem are you having exactly?

Or let's do this:

1. Use Anydvd 6.4.3.2: click http://static.slysoft.com/SetupAnyDVD6432.exe

You may need to reboot after installing if prompted to do so.

2. Click the red fox icon on your toolbar. Click "default". Click "ok".

3. Use Clonedvd 2.9.1.7: click http://static.slysoft.com/SetupCloneDVD2917.exe

4. Follow the steps from this link in order: click http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=476 (follow them step by step)

If you're using +R DL blank discs, I recommend using Clonecd: click http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=327

5. If you still have problems, then . . .

A)
a) Ensure Anydvd is running.
b) Put the problematic original movie dvd in your burner. Wait for Anydvd to scan the disc.
c) Right click the red fox icon on your toolbar.
d) Select "Create Logfile"
e) Wait for Anydvd to create a log file.
f) A pop-up screen will appear. Take note of the location where Anydvd created the logfile and the logfile's name. Click "ok".
g) Go to your My Documents folder
h) You will see a zip file called "Anydvd_Info_titleofmydisc.zip" (or something similar; see step f)
i) When replying or posting in the Slysoft forums, look for the icon that looks like
attach.gif
(in other words, look for the paperclip after clicking "quote" or when creating a new thread)
j) If you don't see that paperclip icon, click the "go advanced" button. You should see that icon now. Click the paperclip.
k) A small pop-up screen should appear (if it doesn't please ensure your browser is enabled to allow pop-ups from the Slysoft forums)
l) Click the "Browse" button, and locate and select the .zip file you created.
m) click "upload"
n) Close the window. When you submit reply, or submit a new thread, the .zip file will be attached automatically for us to take a look at

B) State the full a)error message(s) you encountered (click "details"), b)tell us what program(s) you were using when you received the error message(s), and c) describe in detail what you were doing when you received the error message(s). What problem are you having exactly?

C) Click http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=5091 to see if your question has already been answered

Unfortunately, the newer protections just make things harder on many programs like DVD Shrink which is no longer developed. More worrisome and troublesome is the fact that Recode has issues. Recode is actively maintained and yet can't handle quite a number of newer movies. It's just a fact of life and the fault lands squarely in Nero's lap for not fixing their product.

You know there is a serious issue when DVD Shrink which doesn't get any updates handles a disc but Recode cannot. Rambo is a prime example. Recode can't even import the ripped files from your HDD without locking up. That's just one example.

Just use DVD Shrink in place of Recode with the troublesome ones but realize that with each new structural protection that there may come a time when DVD Shrink and Recode might not be a solution. Nero really needs to open their eyes and fix their product.
