:-(

I have also problems ripping Matrix HD-DVD.
It's a flipper HD-DVD. One side ist HD-DVD and other side is normal DVD.
I have problems reading the second layer (PEVob_2.evo) of the HD-Side.
I also have an LG drive (LG GGW-H20L).
I've already updated the firmware of the drive to YL03 (from YL02) but the problem didn't disappear.
With all the people here reporting problems with the Matix HD-DVD in combination with LG drives i guess that's a problem of the LG or a strange copy-protection.

At the moment i just try to make an image with imgburn. i will report later whether this will work. I noticed that the error ist just at the beginning of Pevob_2.evo. I can't even copy this file with the explorer to harddisc.

can someone who has also an LG drive and noticed the same problems try to copy/read the Pevob_2.evo. I guess they will get the same error.

Update: No way to rip the Dvd with image burn. :-(

Here the part of the IMGBURN.LOG

or a strange copy-protection.

No. It's a defective disc (or a dying drive). And the flip discs are notorious for being defective.

W 15:05:16 Failed to Read Sector 7076096 - Reason: Unknown (CRC or ECC Error) (0x10, 0x90)
W 15:05:17 Retrying (1 of 20)...

That's a bad disc (or a bad drive).

From CyberLink InstantBurn's packet writing software . . . packet writing software in general is bad news and interferes with a lot of programs including Slysoft's. If you want drag-and-drop functionality, use dvd-ram instead (with a FAT file format), which is more stable.

i) Create a backup of your registry
ii) Download imgburn. It's a free program: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
(it's also an excellent program imo)
iii) Go to Tools > Filter Driver Load Order. Select "clbstor". Click "Remove Selected Filter". Click "ok".
iv) Reboot

Keep in mind whatever program installed that filter may no longer work properly.

However, I feel doing this is unlikely to change your bad disc (or drive) issue.

it was also kind of obvious after the 20th error that the disc was bad well at least for me it would have been . just return it and swap it for another disc

@Webslinger

Thanks a lot for your efforts. I think things get now a little bit more clear.
The lg drive comes together with a driver disc.
Without using this disc you are not able to have UDF 2.5 file system.
So you have to put that damned thing in your pc.
It has an auto play and the install software has only one install button (which installs besides many unneeded software packacges the low level drivers) on the PC. I'm quite sure that the reason for the problems people have with the LG drive is neither the hardware nor the disc but (as you mentioned) the low level package driver which seems to have problem with the layer change.

What i tried in the meantime was to access the PVEVOB_2.EVO in the explorer to show file details. i tried it about 2 or 3 times until this worked. After that i was able to copy the evo complete (without further read errors) to disc.

Now I'm demuxing the evo so the computer is busy at the moment.

I think i will not have many time this weekend but i will make a try next week.

maybe in the meantime someone else with an LG drive and problems with HD-DVS might try to remove this package driver and report what he has found out. I will do next week.

Thanks a lot again and a nice weekend to everyone

SVCD

P.S. i wrote to the last post and not in a new thread because all three people who had an lg drive had exactly the same problems with the layer change on the matrix HD-DVD.

You can use Anydvd ripper without requiring clbstor. I'm not positive that removing clbstor will fix this issue though. I still suspect a problem exists with the original disc, but it wouldn't hurt to try removing clbstor from your registry.

Those flip discs tend to be really bad news.

As Webslinger has already said the HD-DVD flip-discs were notorious for being poorly manufactured. This is simply a shame but what's done is done. Your problem may just be a badly manufactured disc. You may wish to exchange it for a replacement.

I will also elaborate on what Webslinger said about not needing Cyberlink Storage Helper Driver (clbstor.sys). Windows Vista natively supports UDF 2.5/2.6 while Windows XP and older Windows operating systems do not. For Windows XP this can be resolved by installing Toshiba's UDF 2.5 drivers which also allows Windows XP to read UDF 2.6. You don't need the Cyberlink Storage Helper Driver.

Without the Toshiba driver or the Cyberlink Storage Helper Driver you will not be able to access the HD/BD drive via Windows Explorer because the operating just doesn't support the required UDF. AnyDVD HD will have no issues accessing/reading the drive regardless of drivers being installed because it independently supports UDF 2.5/2.6.

NOTE: Refer to this (http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=15597) thread about installing the Toshiba drivers!

That drive and that disc are also notoriously not friendly. Mine reads it fine, but, most everyone I know that has that drive and that disc have problems. The disc was EXTREMELY badly manufactured. My advice...wait for the BD release. :D (Or, seriously, you could try to get the disc replaced but there's no guarantees)
