I tried GameJackal and bought it, only to realize that most of my profiles worked when I tested them, but would not work later. So, I checked the forums and unlocked the capture mode to try and update the profies. It would work at first and then stop working.

Then, when trying to update Age of Empires - Asian Dynasties, I accidentally put in the wrong disk (Titan Quest - Immortal Throne) and it loaded. I went through other profiles I had trouble with and most worked. I then tried different disks, and even put in Finding Nemo DVD into my drive and all my games worked flawlessly, even Universe at War (and it ALWAYS asked for the disk). Weird that it only works with a disk in the drive. I will do more testing to make sure they continue to work.

PS. This is only for these games, I have been able to get C&C III, Supreme Commander - Forged Alliance, & Age of Mythology to work without a disk. C&C Kane's Wrath is unaffected by inserting ANY disk.

I am using Windows XP home with SP2 and the drive is a Pioneer DVD-115. AnyDVD is not running. AVG Free 7.5519 and Spybot 1.5.0.9 is running.

erm, im not sure if he would want help, considering he can bypass the protection on those titles by inserting any disk... and using game jackal :)

I had problems with Kane's Wrath. It would work immediately after I profiled it, but it would not work later. Forcing the date did not work. I had to unlock capture mode and keep running and stopping the game until it did the deep scan (?) that took about five minutes to complete instead of the usual 15 seconds. So far it seems to work well (fingers crossed).

OK.

Civ IV CD vers 1.7.4.0
Immortal Throne vers 1.1
AOE Asian Dynasties CD - Ver 1.0

All of these seem to work with ANY DISK installed, but not when the drive is empty.

I can't get Universe at War to work vers 1.00.90977
It has Safedisk 4.85.00 - Always asks for the disk. I have attached the summary for that game.

Here is a log for CivIV - FYI. I can get you AOE or Immortal Throne if you would like. Sorry about turning this thread into one with multiple games.

This Arcsoft filter does cause conflicts with Slysoft software. Uninstall whatever program installed it (possibly Arcsoft Photo impressions) and ensure that filter is no longer listed. Reboot after.

If you can't figure out how to remove that filter, then do this:

i) Create a backup of your registry
ii) Download imgburn. It's a free program: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
(it's also an excellent program imo)
iii) Go to Tools > Filter Driver Load Order. Select "afc". Click "Remove Selected Filter". Click "ok".
iv) Reboot

Keep in mind that whatever installed afc.sys will no longer function properly.

erm, im not sure if he would want help, considering he can bypass the protection on those titles by inserting any disk... and using game jackal :)

lol

Yeah, but if GameJackal is working properly, then it seems to me you shouldn't be prompted to insert a disc (even if any disc does work for some strange reason).

Thanks for all your help. I uninstalled ArcSoft Photoimpressions (It came with the printer and I never use it). Of course, uninstalling did not get rid of the driver (those bastards), so I used Imageburn to get rid of it.

Unfortunately, everything is the same. I still need a disk to run Civ4, AOE, and Titan Quest. (Hey, at least they run).

I can not get Universe at War to run at all.

Kane's Wrath seemed to work. It wokred for the rest of the day, wich is longer than I have ever seen it work. Unfortunatley, when I tried this morning - it asked for the disk.

I went into the advanced options and told it to use yesterday's date, but that did not work. I also changed the time from 1 second to 5 seconds in case it checked the date later in to boot, and still can not get it to work.

Sorry, I had high hopes in my method.

Okay, did you create new profiles after removing afc.sys and rebooting?

This is a bug that has been causing grief for a small number of users for sometime. However, we have not been able to reproduce it.

Can you please try the following.
1) Capture CIV4 (do not test the profile after it's been captured)
2) Download the attached "profile_manager.zip" file. Unzip, then open the GJ interface, select settings, then plugins. From here install the unzipped file. There should be a new option in the tools menu called "Zip up a profile".
3) Using the "Zip up a profile" option zip up the newly created profile.
4) Test the profile and make sure it still works (if not start again).
5) Continue testing the profile over the next few days until it breaks.
6) Now zip up the broken profile.
7) Finally, unzip the good profile files back to the profile lib directory (i.e. C:\Program Files\SlySoft\Game Jackal\Profile Library) and test again.

Hope all that makes sense ;)

What I am looking for here is if the profile files are becoming corrupt, or there is another reason for the insert msg to appear.

If the profile starts after you copy the original profile files back, it would suggest that the profile file are becoming corrupt. If so can send both the good and bad zipped up profile files. I will PM you with an email address.

Thanks,

You guys reply faster than I get a chance to check the forums :)

I did not recreate my profiles after getting rid of the filter. I am trying that.

I also zipped up a newly created profile for CivIV. I will let you know when/if it breaks and if restoring the profile works.

Thanks for your support.

Ok.

Civ4 worked without the disk the first time I tried it, but not the second. I tried replacing the "good" profile (the one created before I tested it) after zipping up the "bad" profile.

Unfortunately, when I replaced the profile to put the good one back, it still asked for the disk. At least it still works with the "ANY" disk.

PS - I am still unable to get Universe at War to work at all and I am still working on getting Kane's Wrath to work for an extended time.

Can you still forward on the good and bad profiles. I have sent you an email address via private message.

I sent the CIV4 profiles to your e-mail. I hope they are useful.

I can't get Kane's Wrath to work for more than a day. I tried restoring a "working" profile, but it didn't work. I think I messed up setting the date, but setting it after the load fails does not work. I updated the profile and locked in the date, I will let you know if it works.

Any thoughts on Universe at War? That does not work at all and always asks for the disk.

Thanks

If you run "Update profile" does this fix the issue (even if just for a day)?

I locked in the day for Kane's Wrath, but it does not work the next day. I tried just using the update profile, and it works fine (at least for today - I will let you know tomorrow).

I also tried saving the profiles and using the old profile - that did not work, so I don't think it is getting corrupted.

Universe at War does not work at all - even when I select update profile.

I have installed other games that work fine (Heroes V, Supreme Commander - Forged Alliance, C&C III). Only had three games that require ANY disk to work (AOE III, Titan Quest, and CivIV).

Sorry about talking about so much at once, but I figured it would be better to be detailed in case it was one problem that affected all.

Sorry, you are right. It does not work after rebooting. I thought I tried that before, but I guess I was wrong.

Is there something I can do for that?
