The program did not ask for a re-boot

AnyDVD did *not* ask you to reboot after the installation?

The program did not ask for a re-boot after the install.
as soon as i installed the program the error came up,
and no drives were listed

so i coped the error and re-booted on restart the drives were listed.

although this latest version is supposed to install without a reboot of your computer...
AnyDVD History
6.4.0.4 2008 03 27
- New (Setup): AnyDVD can now be installed without a reboot (2000/XP/Vista)
...the error message says to reboot on point 2 (which you did and fixed it).

just seems like a little glitch that needs ironing out.

Same Problem, Different OS!

James, I had this same error problem/message happen to me when I updated as well.
Same error message pop up, but no "You must restart for Anydvd to work properly" message like it has in the past.

I am about to reboot to see if that fixes the problem.

Running Vista SP1. Please let me know if you need any more information from me.

EDIT-Reboot DID fix the problem.

James,

Patch notes for AnyDVD 6.4.0.4 mention that it's now possible to install AnyDVD wihtout requiring a reboot:

6.4.0.4 2008 03 27
- New (Blu-ray): Added support for new version of BD+ as found on
"Hitman", Region A, US
- New (DVD): Added support for a new type of structural protection as
found on "Reservation Road", R1, US (untested, awaiting feedback)
- New (DVD): Added support for a new type of structural protection as
found on "Der Perfekte Sex", R2, Germany
- New (DVD): AnyDVD ripper can now be started multiple times
- New: Settings can be changed while rip is in progress.
Setting changes will be ignored for drives currently ripping.
- New (Setup): AnyDVD can now be installed without a reboot (2000/XP/Vista)
- Fix (Blu-ray): Small visible glitches (1-2 frames per movie) on BD+
protected discs
- Fix (DVD): AnyDVD ripper didn't handle some discs properly under Vista
- Some minor fixes and improvements
- Updated languages

So, I take it then that that patch note is incorrect, and we need to manually reboot (at least for now)?

James,

Patch notes for AnyDVD 6.4.0.4 mention that it's now possible to install AnyDVD wihtout requiring a reboot:

It is possible. I didn't need to reboot in Windows XP Pro 32 bit Service Pack 2 nor in Vista 64 bit ultimate edition Service Pack 1 with 6.4.0.4.

If your drives are active at the time of installation, you may require a reboot (but Anydvd should really be forcing a popup message asking for one).

So, I take it then that that patch note is incorrect, and we need to manually reboot (at least for now)?

I suspect the feature needs to be ironed out a little bit more.
